I've seen these with Vinylium head and amp. Makes a nice lathe body for that sort of rig.

Hi - Couple notes on the 8dg. This is a later production 8dg before the switch to 8dgv. It has direct drive motors for 33 and 78, 45 is achieved by the third vertical mount motor running with a puck off the flywheel for the 33/78 gearbox. Early model 8d units have a radiused section to the left of the platter unlike this later unit. The 8dg types are easy to work on and built like tanks!!! I use one as my main lathe and couldn't be happier.... Highly recommended!

There are people out there who will pay anything to get into cutting
It is a good platform to build on if there is a lack of readies
Dont ask me why
I would not be surprised if this one did not go to a pro guy
I have a suspicion that or my guess would be Maistrow any clues?
Cheers
Chris

Is that a particularly high price? I was under the impression these were pretty nice lathes once restored. Certainly blows a $1000 6n out of the water.

I expect to continue to see ridiculous prices on all gear for sale given the current economic climate worldwide.

Why would a horrible economic climate cause auction prices to be inflated?

People seem to be dusting off old gear that they aren't using and are trying to get the most they can for it. At least that is what I'm seeing lately.

Yeah, but people still have to actually pay that price... and you can ask all that you want for something, but it's not going to sell unless it is reasonable. And it seems like people are dusting off that old gear and selling it as quickly as they can, which generally involves taking a lower price. Especially in an auction setting.

But, on the other hand, interest in record lathes and lathe cut records seems to have really taken off. At least in my scene. I feel like Johnny Appleseed... I've hooked up 6 of my friends with lathe setups of various types... when I started I was the only one I knew who even knew what a lathe cut record was.

So, wider knowledge and use brings in new users who buy the old equipment.
