New fake Neumann SX74 on ebay (US)
Couldn't believe my eyes:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SX74-SX-74-Made-in-Germany-for-VMS-70-80-82-NEUMANN-CUTTERHEAD-CUTTER-HEAD-Lathe-/121727574067?
Someone made this prototype but it sure as hell wasn't Neumann.

Not to leave out this detail - this claims to be a copy. Who built this? Where did it come from? Why make a fake Neumann badge? If this is No.17 are there 16 more heads somewhere?

hmmm. Why don't people just say it's a replica. There's nothing wrong with replicas if they meet the original specs .
Re: New fake Neumann SX74 on ebay (US)
Hmm, I suspect that this "head" has been built by Joanna, and probably the seller was a buyer time ago...

That's definitely a Polish head. The last pic with the text is from the old eBay listing.

Re: New fake Neumann SX74 on ebay (US)
Interesting language about the sensitivity of the item and need for proper installation/use. Seems to be a built in defense if the head doesn't operate as described, blame the end buyer for improper use to defend against a PayPal claim of "not as described". If anyone needs a 10 foot pole, you're welcome to borrow one of mine.....
Re: New fake Neumann SX74 on ebay (US)
That is another Joanna Polinska head. I can identify at least 10 details that are in common with the other JP heads. Don't buy it!
The etched placard is the same. The ugly milling around the transducer covers is exactly the same. The push rods are constructed the same. Etc.
But man, those heating wire terminals. Of everything on all the heads, those are still by far my most favorite part. Nice work there.

Possibly this is a hacked account. This person hasn't sold anything in over a year. In Maryland, huh? Hmmm

I saw one in LA at the studio of a well known Mastering engineer and cutterhead Guru. He bought it to see what was inside...at the time I saw it, a year or more ago, he had yet to open it up or test it.

Re: New fake Neumann SX74 on ebay (US)
the part that still kills me is why they claim it's a neumann?
why can't they just name it something else, and mention that it borrows that design?
we can tell by the look of it that it's modeled after the neumann anyway.

Becasue they aren't looking to fool us. They are looking to fool those who can't identify a difference.

Why than someonee with a USA ebay account does not report this item?
It is not an sx74 or a nuemann
It may save someone a lot of angst
Cheers

Re: New fake Neumann SX74 on ebay (US)
I got a response from the seller:
Dear concretecowboy71,
I only know what I was told in the sale. Sorry. I hear some manner of doubt and will stand by it if a buyer follows the specs of an acceptable operational environment that's professional and not experimental. If you plug it into equipment with your other heads have worked well with and this one doesn't, then I'll take it back with a refund to you. It looks great to me but I don't have any other SX74's so I can't answer to a comparison to your SX74's. I'd it doesn't sell, I will likely pursue a recording system. Thanks for your query.

To me, this sounds like somebody that got stung buying one of these heads and is now trying to unload it. English seems too good for this to be out Euro gal/pal. I suggest others flag this listing to get it pulled before somebody actually buys this.

Just saw another one pop up in poland. Quite different looking from the others, and at least marketed as a "replika"
