Maybe retiring?

If since he knows a tech that worked on them back in the 1960s, he must be at least in his 70s!

Not sure how long this will last, not a bad price for a fully running system.

The system was recently restored. It hasn't really been put into service since the restoration. You can be sure the work was done properly.

it says that the work was done by someone that worked at neumann.
AFAIK all official neumann engineers who were inoled in disk cutting are dead, last one was johannes richter? (rip grand masters)
flozki is the only one i know who was in the official neumann lathe repair thing and learned it by the masters...

but at the end of the day it makes not much difference who repaired it, if it works properly and cuts nice disks (?)
on the other hand it is an old machine with tube pitch, 66 rack and 68 head, so it might be more tricky to get into competition with the big mastering houses...and also not really cheap imho...

A VG66-SX68 combo cuts a really great sounding record. It's my favorite Neumann system by far. Only other Neumann systems with similar sound quality are whatever Kevin Gray is using (something custom) and what Doug Sax was using (that had different problems than the VG66 and different strengths, but was also excellent).

The VG66 doesn't get a lot of love. I've used one for over 15 years now. I've had plenty of opportunities to change to an SAL74(B). I like the VG66. When restored and set up properly they sound great. Don't let the specs fool you. I use an SX74 but would be happy with an SX68. I used the tube pitch on an VMS68 Special. It's no Zuma but works okay. In general I'd say you get an extra 2db on an over 20:00 side with the Zuma.

Kurt [name redacted] was Albert Grundy's right hand man for over 30 years. He has deep knowledge of lathes of all types.

Does anyone know if this lathe has actually been sold and if so who purchased it?

yes- it's been a while
I shoulda bought a lathe from Grundy for 30K when I had the chance - instead of wasting my time on that pressing plant fiasco :)
