1938 recording lathes in Germany--amazing photo
From the Getty Images website--1938 Germany. I have no idea what we're looking at, but they sure look serious about it!

Wow nice picture! It shows two AM31s with the old type of platter for wax blanks. The cutterhead mount looks unfamiliar, I haven't seen this variant before. The engineer is adjusting the vertical position of the cutterhead assembly with the crank handle he has his hand on. He might be adjusting groove depth, since he is looking through the microscope. It is hard to see if the cutterhead is engaged or not.
This picture was very likely shot in a radio station control room. It was usual practice at that time to run a pair of lathes to cut long radio shows for rebroadcast. The same method was also in use in the US, also explained in the Bob Morrison book.

what a goldmine, there's tons more..... but how can you search them by publisher etc... ? the getty images page is confusing to say the least!
