Found on another forum.
RCA's in-house notebooks from 1940 have come to light.

There are some very good pictures of an early Scully "Recording machine".
Regards, Dan.

Thanks for this post. I've downloaded the manual. It's full of very useful information, among which is information about my RCA 44BX Ribbon microphone.
Re: 1940's RCA In house notes
From what I read of a 1956 interview with Larry Scully in (I.I.N.M.) High Fidelity magazine, the Scullys in use at RCA's studios were a prototype for the eventual Model 501; built some time between 1934 and 1937, while the 501 first came out in 1938. Didn't those early Scullys' use for cutting 78's stretch to the end of that format in 1958?
But I see that the particular copy of this manual went to their Hollywood studios of the time - where they also for years (until it closed in 1976) had a pressing plant. I know that, as of 1956, tape transfers to disc were via RCA RT-11 tape machines.
