Neumann AM32 Chassis Colour
This lathe restoration is well underway. Colleagues in Germany via Neumann have put me on to this company in relation to chassis colour matching:

Would any trolls have any further information on the reference colour that they would be happy to share?

Re: Neumann AM32 Chassis Colour
That's a harder match than one would think. Is that paint available in a hammertone finish?

Not going to touch the controller or lathe - just the chassis and panels - they are in a sad state of affair but not hammertone.

Re: Neumann AM32 Chassis Colour
The cabinet? I had an AM32B where the cabinet had been painted grey and it just didn't look right. At the same time I had a VMS62 Special with the cabinet in its original state and it looked great. I seem to think it was almost a hammertone finish.

Re: Neumann AM32 Chassis Colour
I think you are right - I have disassembled the panels from the chassis to have a good look at it. Someone over the years has done a paint job on the external panels and some of the chassis. Shame really as its a shocker of a job and you can see the original colour on the underside of the panels where they interface with the chassis. Not sure if it can be stripped back to the original surface. Heavy rust on the bottom of the chassis so that's my priority at the moment.
I'll post some pictures later when I have a mo.

Here's my experience with painting.
I removed the front panel, gave it a light sanding in about a 7 inch area to expose the original paint color.
Then took the panel to the local home improvement store and had them computer color match that 7 inch area.
I sanded and used auto body filler in the dings and dents, primed it, then sprayed it.
There is the rustolium line of "Hammered" spray Paints too.

Re: Neumann AM32 Chassis Colour
Im hoping you removed the turntable before you moved that lathe.
Once the rust is dealt with, I would think stripping ALL the paint off and starting afresh might be best. Looks like a fun project.

Stripped, repainted with original colours and reassembled - looks like new. Fairly happy with my effort.

Thanks folks - I'll get the pantone codes and contacts and a few staged shots organised and post up here in the next few days.
