there is one here on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC-PIERRE-CLEMENT-M2-CUTTERHEAD-disc-lathe-phono-recorder-cutting-head/111392659997?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D444000%26algo%3DSOI.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140221143856%26meid%3D7910151741209169221%26pid%3D100012%26prg%3D20140221143856%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D111390230501
sorry no idea how to do a short link, it's an M2. In addition on Vinyl Engine you will find some info on Pierre Clement

Thanks Stevie, I have already one M2, but yes, in each case it's better see the auction.
There is too a M6 on Ebay, but the price is very high.... :

In each case all these Pierre Clement had the dc resistance of coil to 22-23 ohm .

There is this from the same seller as well http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111389517400?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
It's in a really nice presentation box as well, not heard of this brand before or only vague recollection of the brand. The Lathe is beautifully made has two motors see below.
He had did have the lathe listed that went with it but ended it early 111390230501
There was a Thorens head up for auction a few days back as well. Lots of interesting stuff popping up in Europe lately. I have no need for any more heads as I have two Sugden lathes one with original moving coil head and a Presto 1-D (refurbed) for the other lathe.
On the Pierre Clement with a DC resistance of 22-23 ohms that would make it a 15 ohm or 500 ohm AC resistance/impedance?

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
The lathe of Ebay is a mix of more parts, modified.
The overhead is a Poltz Freres ( the same of mine ), while the turntable - base - platter is original of Le Discographe Dauphine.
The motor that you see on the left is original ( as mine that I had received on my lathe before of my work for modify ) of Poltz, only 78 rpm, build all with bakelite gear mechanisms by Dual Carobronze, that probably was the distributor of Dual Steidiger Germany, the famous german brand of turntables known in the world.
Example of Le discographe original :
About the resistance of 15 or 500 ohm Ac compared to 22-23 dc, I am not sure that is the same thing...

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
The picture of the Dauphine looks a lot like a BBC type D made by Cecil Watts who made MSS cutter lathes for the BBC and was one of the first to manufacture Acetates in 1933. Once tape came about in the late 1940s MSS designed tape recorders as the bottom dropped out the cutting lathe market.
The BBC purchased lots and lots of lots of his acetate discs. I have some MSS 10" acetates they are a bit hard but good for practicing cutting on with a steel cutting stylus.

Hi, i ve an Le Dauphine machine too.
I m trying to understand if my cuttinghead LD are still in working condition.
Do you know wich is the correct voltage ?
Thank you very much

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
Hello, I have a Dual Carobronze Lathe and I am at the moment trying to macke it to wock. As tou Know on this lathe were is also a Pierre Clément 23 ohm Cutterhead. I make a test with a 8 ohm amp and on my lathe were is a Vu meter (mA meter from 0 to 1 mA).
Wen the needel of this vu is at 0,6 mA I have 12,5v AC at the end of the amplifier. At 0,8mA I have 17volt AC. At 1mA I have 21,2v AC. Al seems good and we can ear the vibrition of the stylus.
A technician says mi that for 23 ohm it must work at 13v AC with a 10watt (real watts) amplifier.
Regards
Aaron

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
hello, I have tuk a new belt on my Dual Carobronze lathe with a Pierre Clement head and so... I have made a test to record a 1000hz...
On the Vu I am at the maximum (detween 20-22 volts) but wen I tried to listen the cut, the sound is not strong at all...
I don't think it is he right voltage or somthing is rong on my PC head ????
I can hear the sound (1000hz) wen he is comming to the head and the stylus seems to be producing sound.
Perhaps I must listen it withe a 78T stylus (I tried it with a sylus from Russia) on a vinyl record from the 80s with a blank face...
Somone have a idea from what kind of voltage is need for the Pierre Clement Head????
regards
Aaron

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
Depend, what type of amp do you use, which power ?
Then, which type of P. Clement do you have, M2 or what ? If you have a M2 as mine, you must check inside the gum dampeners, because after 60 or more years will be hard...

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
Hello, exuses for my bad english.
I have a M2 Pierre Clement head.
Yes I have seen that where were old grease instde wat is becomse hard with the time. In the Pierre Clement were is no bamping. I cleaned all the old grease but now I have a litle bit problems withe the adjusment. I must try again...
Do you know war kind of grease they used?
regards

Oh I haved seen that you have also a M2. Do you realy have a gum damper inside? I have ony seen old grease but no gum.studiorp wrote:Depend, what type of amp do you use, which power ?

Do you know hat is the corect voltage for this head and with wat kind of amplifier I can use for a good result ? (the problem is the 23 ohm of the coil and the most amps are in 8 to 16 ohm).

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
picture from my lathe (I remouved the old Dual motor and use a Schlumberger broadcast reel to reel pilot motor and case and motor drive electronics).
Allso here, drowings from the stylus and head and the problem I have with it. First the grease was hard so the stylus dont mouved free. I remouved the old grease (I dont think it was damping gum) and put some new on to try. It seems beter but the stylus holder seems to go on the right side or left side to easely and jump out of the "pivot" ...
Have someone have good results with the Pierre Clement head?
In France is Pierre Clement the "big star" from profestionnal broadcast turnabel so I think it is a very good head... (????)
If somone have good results can he tell us watt is the good voltage for a 1000hz sound at nominal level ?
Thanks
Regards

more picturs here
Note: The pully at the front is normaly not there . It is only becasuse at the moment my belt is too wide.
This lathe have at the moment 3 speeds (16, 33, 78) For the 45 I must made a special pully (the 3 speeds commes throm the originaly reel to reel and I could adjust them for 16, 33, 78 but not 33, 45,78)

Pierre Clement dual carobronze lathe
Hello news from my lathe.
1) what I fought is grease in the head is gum damper
2) My Pierre Clement cutter head seems to worck fine but I don't make a cut try for now 5I hope the stylus mouves ignought and that the new damper just make it greate).
3)I make the pully for the 78T 33T and 16T/minut and adjust the electronichal speed adjustements for this 3 speeds. the electronic commes from a reel to reel 3 speeds. For 45T I must make an other pully but I have not a lot of interest in 45T and the electronic adjustement couldn't work for 45T withe my pully.
Here photos:
1) first try on plastic 2)In aluminium now

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
The lathe we can see is from a frien. I have worked for the first time on this type of machine. Not simple but it is not so difficult on aluminium...

Re: searching Pierre Clement cutting heads
The antiscayting attached on the TP13 .
This lathe is now also a thery thery good turntabel without rumble (a SME or EMT tonarm would be better but I don't have the money for that....).
...I don't know now if I will attache a tonarm lift ???? next step ??? It would be perhaps better ?
Then, heating, vaccum, stereo head... Invert RIAA....
It is a long way....
