Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
This software has so much potential. I've barely scratched the surface here. The applications are beyond what I can presently predict. Another facet of expression for any artist's release.
I've spent time working on fine tuning a few aspects of the application. Thanks to the test cutting efforts of uvoscillator in Russia, we discovered that my software was not generating a proper number of spirals if I set it to shrink an image. He wanted to cut a 7". The software defaults to 12". I've only done test cuts with the Percent Fill at 100. But, when rendering audio for a 7", where the image is zoomed out and smaller, at less than 100% fill, the software wasn't accounting for the size reduction appropriately and was generating audio that wasn't correct. After some tricky debugging and troubleshooting, I completely rewrote the spiral generation algorithm. It is now very refined, simplified, and most importantly generating the correct number of spirals with the correct content given the selected LPI and Percent Fill. Thank you very much uvoscillator for your help here!!!
I also spent time on the audio generating algorithm. Originally, it was generating very clicky sounding audio for grayscalled images. If there was a very light pixel just before a very dark pixel (or vice versa) the resulting audio would be a sine wave that was continuing the phase correctly but would jump drastically from one amplitude to the next. I didn't like the clicky sound. So, I modified the code to ramp the level up or down gracefully for the last percentage of audio samples which represent one image pixel. A fade of the last 10% - 20% of the samples results in very nice and smooth transitions between passages that differ greatly in level (or color). This is now an option in the interface. I can fade for as much or as little or none of the ending of each audio sample pixel representation.
Finally, I've added a feature that allows me to generate a spiral image representation that goes past the locked groove diameter, past the label and right to the center pin. I have someone who is interested in doing a pressing like this. So, I added the feature. Before, the software would stop processing the image and stop rendering audio at the minimum locked groove diameter of 4.125" on a 12".
Brethren in Frankfurt have gone to press using my Groove Graphics technology. Check out the lacquer Below is a short video of the pressing. Thanks for the copies RAWAX!!! And, thanks for your support and interest! They've done a few other test cuts. Here are some pictures. They are cutting on a lacquer converted VMS80. This one is a little hard to make out. I'm working with my fellow cutters to convert LPI to VMS80 Land setting. This image is unnaturally stretched. I will tweak my software to account for this after a few more tests are done. The image is a cropped section of the first picture in this post above.

Holy crap that is amazing very detailed art. Was it hard to do the coding for this software.?
Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
Overall, no. However I have close to 16 years of professional development experience. I've written some extremely complicated code in the past. My experience developing this application is probably going to be a lot different than many others who might want to do something similar. A few pieces of functionality were challenging. But, only because I haven't done anything similar in the past.

16 years whooh, Well that explain your fine work with this project. You open the door for future picture disk idea great work
Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
Really pleased to be a part of this project. This is one of Stan Ricker's last cuts. This is an artist's album St. Rock-04 Louviere. I supplied the audio via my proprietary Groove Graphics technology. It came out stunning in my opinion. Bringing a whole new dimension to an all too familiar media. Further allowing the artist to express.

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
had the pleasure of getting a graphic cut done by Opcode
turned out very nice
I get the pressed records soon - then I will upload some pictues here
Mine was 'just' text, nothing as fancy as here

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
I built out a new web site to promote my Groove Graphics technology. It is working fantastically well. I've had a number of image translations go through plating and pressing now. I am 100% confident in the technology. It adds a unique layer of expression to any pressing. Another way for an artist to express in an all to familiar media.
