Hey there, is anyone cutting Flexis on the Vinyl Recorder, are there any specific things you need to own/do vs the standard "vinyl dub plate"

I haven't done them myself on the VR, or specifically with souri blanks, but you should add weight to the head to make up for the smaller thickness.

Shouldn't one reduce weight to compensate for less width on the blank?

Also, what are Souri's blanks made of? They're not vinyl, are they?

No,
you need to add weight to produce the same force 1/32" farther extended towards the platter.
same as if you use a twice as thick blank, you will be cutting much deeper with the same downwards force.

souris blanks are NOT pressed vinyl.

He states they are PVC on his website. Why would he lie? And why is it so hard to get these blanks?

I'm trying to figure it out as I'd like to sell blanks down the road.

Polycarbonate comes in extruded sheets, usually clear only in 1/16" thickness in the US. brands include Lexan, Makrolon, etc.
you can cut with a diamond, or emboss with a sapphire.

It is my understanding that pressed records are PVC, of a certain compound.
When feeling a pressed record, it is much harder than polycarbonate.
I've only heard of very few people who cut pressed PVC with a diamond.

I've cut souri's blanks before, they are much softer than even polycarbonate.
If they are some sort of PVC, it is a much different compound than what records are pressed out of.
Souri's blanks can be cut with diamond, and I've had similar results embossing them with sapphire. (not on the VR)

I don't believe he's "lying" per se, but I would believe he is simplifying things so people can make "vinyl" instead of "plastic records"
The whole thing about his system is that "anyone can use it to make good recordings", he simplifies everything throughout the chain, there is basically no room for error.
In the blanks I believe he's doing the same, "buy these directly from me, you can't get them anywhere else" type of thing.

I mean no disrespect at all, just an observation.
I would very much welcome someone explaining this further, with results.

I have no problem buying my blanks from Souri, I would just like to experiment with different colours and shapes.. I wanted to make a limited edition "Circular saw blade" type record..

Any ideas where to get?

Would I cut with a sapphire onto a different product from his blanks?

Who does the sapphire to fit VR?
