About a year ago I did a little test, I standard sapphire NS-2S cut Pressed PVC disc, After listening, I been very much surprised. PVC is a lot easier to cut than Polycarbonate. It is different plastic though they are both from the same family of polyesters. PVC is softer. So, this is interesting. The next time I have a worn Sapphire, I'll give this a shot with my next patch of PVC blanks and will report back.

As far as Polycarbonate specifically is concerned, it will shred a sapphire. I've tested and chipped a stylus this way.

I have gotten a good sounding 20 second cut using blank PVC and a sapphire. But I have no idea how I did it, and could never reproduce the results (but haven't tried all that hard).
