Vinylrecorder and blank disks
Hi,
Spent last few days cutting records. Hadn't turned on my Vinylrecorder since Spring... So, as usual, lack of practice and quite a few damaged records to start with. Then, everything starts to run smooth again!
I'm actually running out of blank discs, got around 25 left right now. The last 25 I cut were perfect, but all of a sudden I'm having problems with these last ones. They are all slightly bent on one side, about 1 mm. So I can't cut them because cutting stylus will "jump" after a few spins and I'll ruin the recording.
I've stored these records vertically since I bought them from Souri two and a half years ago and they are the last from a 300 Lp's order, regular weight, not the 180 gr ones.
So here go my questions:
- Is it better to store them horizontally? (makes no sense to me)
- Is it possible to "de- bend" them? (maybe heat + weight)
- Is this an usual problem with Souri's blanks?
- Maybe not so usual with 180 gr discs?

Re: Vinylrecorder and blank disks
I have a few of souris blanks that are slightly warped as well.
From what I can tell mine were stored horizontally.
Wish I had a better answer for you!

Re: Vinylrecorder and blank disks
Have you talked to Souri about the defective blanks? He's usually pretty quick and happy to replace for you. I had a handful with the center holes not being the right size, also a small batch with some "humps" in them.. I reached out and he quickly replied and said "this is problem with manufacturer, will replace on next order."- or some such Souri-ism.
Same goes for appollo lacquers as well. Always happy to replace defective blanks and lacquers!
Cheers!

Ok, I asked Souri about this issue. This was his criptic answer:
- Is it better to store them horizontally? (makes no sense to me)
No
- Is it possible to "de- bend" them? (maybe heat + weight)
No
- Is this a usual problem with thin blanks?
No
- Maybe not so usual with 180 gr discs?
No
And that's it, dealing with Souri is always fun!

Re: Vinylrecorder and blank disks
I have repaired regular warped albums with 2 pieces of glass with the album in a paper sleeve set in the sun.check it by lifting the top piece of glass bout every 10-15 minutes.when the album doesn't raise up put it in the shade until it cools, done!
