My DIY Lathe Recorder Project

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

 thanks this forum is great, I think!
what I want to change is = remove vibration transfer from the engine through the screw out to arm
and make the arm more stable build a better engraver anytime something like neuman westex just I get blueprints for this stuff etc.
and replace the disc work which for the moment is an English that does not work satisfaing due to numerous layer is worn
it should be replaced with a lenco L75

wow...neuman like lathe... This is what I call a challenge..
Regarding vibration, have you tried to slice the nut screw in two ? I did that and it improved a bit...
That said I strongly wonder what system is the better : a screw or transmission belt+pulley (like printers)
I am myself in the neverending process of building/rebuilding my diy lathe and so far I used a rod screw + nut screw slided in two.

This evening I saw a guy in the street throwing away a cannon printer I immediately retrieved
I finished to salvaged it few minutes ago and the pulley/belt system looks really smooth and steady...so I maybe will try to play with it....

looks good. I too am interested in building a cutter with a two speaker set up.
Your drawings are interesting -too -can't wait to see what becomes of your project.
Are you going to start from scratch and build a new head -or take apart your old one
and use the parts from there?
Cheers,
recordboy
