Cutting Head gets really Hot

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

So your cutting level is ok? It just gets hot after a few minutes?

Maybe your amp is DC unstable and puts out a few Volts DC into the head which you cannot hear but will heat up the coil...
Maybe measure the output of your amp?

No, from all the symptoms your head is half cooked! You'll even find that your amp is using much more power than normal due to the lower resistance.

Get it wound!
