modern 78rpm records?
I saw this earlier today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7GFcyshc7Q

This is the first time I've seen someone cut a record for an old gramophone. Shame it's so expensive. I'm a little skeptical about the durability of the material used to make this record. I also don't like the fact that it doesn't have the sound of a gramophone record. What do you guys think? Is it worth it?
There is another guy that 3d prints gramophone records. But it sounds absolutely awful

Re: modern gramophone records?
oh boy! customrecords.com really wants top dollar for those gramaphone records.
I've successfully made records that are playable on windup victrola players, but only with bamboo/fiber playback needles because the material is plastic.
let me know if you're interested and we can chat

Re: modern gramophone records?
I've embossed 78rpm records that played back decently well (a couple quick skips) on a gramophone with a steel stylus. I'll bet with a sapphire trailing stylus it would play just fine.

Re: modern 78rpm records?
the question is whats the point?
i get the nostalgia aspect and for the purest im saying yes 100%
but any embosser can cut a 78 that will play fine with a reg 78 stylus on a basic deck that will play 78s
or even better with a normal spherical stylus so no special needle required
it is what it is

Re: modern 78rpm records?
I've had people request a cut record that will play on a wind-up phonograph and I've told them the heavy tone arm and "railroad spike" needles will chew it right up. I didn't think of using a bamboo needle for playback. Maybe I'll give it a try. I have two wind-up record players to try it on.
