Oreo records :)

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hi,

At first glance, this seems pretty cool. But if you look at the video carefully, you will see that they did not really cut audio into a cookie. First, there is no spiral baked into the cookie (a single locked groove is baked). If you look at the block diagram, you can see that they are using an Arduino Uno to run a small turntable motor and playback some digital audio stored in the a program via a speaker connected to a port on the board. The Arduino just senses the location of the arm and once its in place the motor starts and the audio playback begins. If you look at the cookie rotation speed, there are many revolutions of the locked groove with a much longer audio program that would be possible given the time per revolution.

Still a fun marketing stunt. I wonder how many were made.

Mark

2 Kinds of Men/Records: Low Noise & Wide Range. LN is mod. fidelity, cheap, & easy. WR is High Fidelity & Abrasive to its' Environment. Remember that when you encounter a Grumpy Engineer. (:-D)
