Scully going rate?

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Scully going rate?

Hi folks!

I haven't seen too many Scully lathes on the market. Actually, I'm not sure if I've ever seen one listed in any of the usual places online, though I know that's not where this stuff often circulates.

If I could even find one... what would a Scully w/ an appropriate mono cutterhead set one back?

Just sold a 6N and thinking of the future, y'know.

Fully operational turn-key system?

Oh, only what the down payment on an mid priced home would be.

There is still one doing the rounds on Ebay.

It has been relisted. Be prepared to pay top dollar. Contact Len Horowitz if you are searching for a turnkey system.

Best Of luck in your search.

The ebay unit however from what i can tell in the photos is missing all the motor assembly, unless it's just not pictured. It's also in terrible shape.

It's good kit, that needs a lot of work, and it's priced almost full bang. Fuzzy math if you ask me. But i don't know the story behind it, so im armchairing here.

But even the busted up scully units command. Maybe not 20k, but....

I like the late Al Grundy's approach forget about the lathe history and buy it for what it's worth. Been sentimental over a machine, not for me. We have seen too much of that lately.

There is some history behind that Scully but I think it's priced relevant to the market demands. Someone with their head screwed on could bring it back to life in no time.

Make an offer see how you get on but the days of finding a Scully reasonably priced are well behind us.

I'd love that westrex setup on it though.

But damn if it's ever rusty as a bastard outside, inside is scary to think about. When he says "deep storage" he means it!

That's a mega refurb in of itself!

Scully rates depend on the package. A fully working 601 with Westrex electronics should go for 50k+ easily.
Add an updated pitch system and there you go

Regarding the Maine ebay lathe- consider the electronics trash. the lathe can be refurbed but some missing parts could be an issue
