Plating a vinyl master?

Once you have cut a master laquer, you have metal stampers created and have records pressed from them. Discuss manufacturing here. (Record Matrix Electroforming- Plating, Vinyl Record Pressing.)

Hello,

Would be possible to make stampers from a master cut on vinyl instead of acetate?

Best regards

It's been done before. Problem is that the master disc needs to be bigger than the actual cut as the stamper needs to be larger in diameter than the finsihed record. So a 12" cut for a 12" record will need a 13" stamper. This is why a 12" record is cut onto a 14" disc.

What is is that you want to do?

A few years ago a friend cut some of his House tracks to vinyl, I'm not sure but I think it's PVC blanks, and was wondering if would be possibe to use them as "acetates". They were cut on 12" so not possible, but thanks for your reply :D

Best regards,

Mich

It's possible if you can find somebody to press it with the stamper glued to the mould, rather than using clamping rings. The rings hold the stamper down but seeing as you would have a 12" stamper rather than 13" there would be no need for rings. Glue will substitute nicely.

Thanks for the tips, it's most the curiosity to know if the chemichals would work on vinyl the same as on an acetate. And it's cheaper a vinyl blank than an acetate, but for 12" there's no vinyl blank :D

Best regards,

Mich
