Whooshing
Dealt with whooshing sound on unmodulated grooves yesterday. Knurled dash pot knob was fix but could this issue be caused by imperfect lacquers? I have never had to mess with dash pot or had the whooshing

Re: Whooshing
Had that several times. Vacuum too high or chip tube causing some kind of turbulence. Had a piece of chipped of lacquer from those poorly punched center holes stuck under a lacquer once that caused a noise.
Dont know about you but the Transco/Apollo plates have not been flat for quite a while. Used to just be on the edges but we are seeing more that are uneven all the way to the center.

Re: Whooshing
Hmm,
If it's the same "wooshing" I'm familiar with, that's usually a disc that is not flat from uneven coating/blemish, or like Clint said. something under the disc.I'd suspect that over the dash pot. It's not still doing it is it?
Be sure there's nothing stuck to the platter of underside of the disc, like a piece of hair or lacquer chips etc..
Do you ever comb a razor blade over the platter?

Re: Whooshing
Nothing under lacquer(did on 3 lacquers) and platter clean. I do razor surface 2x a year. And I have had issues with a piece of lacquer center on bottom of lacquer so now I always blow off the bottom before placing down.

Re: Whooshing
Clean your center spindle often. Lacquer and other debris can build up on it. Might be the reason why it didn't lie flat if nothing was underneath.

Re: Whooshing
I've had this happen a month ago. Turns out a small piece of chipped lacquer from the center hole migrated into the suction hose and got stuck, thusly reducing the amount of suction from the platter. Could be worth a look.
