Mid-range budget cutting chain. What processors?

Im curious what processing everyone is running before the lathe. Im going to have to start thinking in these terms pretty soon, and i have some things hanging around already, so itd be a good idea for me to start looking at what works and what doesnt, in a sane price range to start.

So whats everyone running?

Are you looking for basic cutting processors like an EE, HPF/LPF and HF limiter? Or are you looking for "mastering" processors like EQ's and compressors?

Lets do both!

Im hoping to be able to cut from any source, but id venture to guess 9 times out of ten my source would be from a computer.

A tape path is in the works, but not solid yet.

i know many DAW's have some sort of Stereo Enhancement tool. The one in Sequoia is multiband so you can use it as an EE.

The best plug in EQ I've run across is the DMG Equilibrium. You could set that up as an EE by putting a filter on the side channel. It also has stereo HPF/LPF and lots of regular EQ.

The DMG Essence de esser is getting great reviews from people i know and trust although I haven't used it. It will probably work well as a HF limiter.

The only software compressors I use are the Flux Alchemist multiband, which is expensive and the Sonoris mastering compressor. Software compressors are notoriously bad sounding. Other than the Alchemist I can't really recommend one. I use the Sonoris for non heavy lifting tasks occasionally.

If you don't need preview channels then you could use two channel analog processors as well. A BSS DPR902 would be my choice for high frequency limiter if a Maselec wasn't in the cards. There are a zillion EQ and compressor choices. I'd look for an EQ with an HPF/LPF

I have some Neumann EE66 cards if you want an analog EE. There is also Wayne Kirkwood's Stereo Widener board which can be set up as an EE.

I've heard good things about the Brainworx BX digital V2,
it's a software mastering EQ with heavy M/S capabilities, including de-ess and EE
seems very useful for example, de-essing cymbals on the sides and keeping center vocals untouched.
making lathe cuts on a Presto 6N, HIFI stereo cuts on vinylrecorder

Definitely getting into a different realm of processors then i have on hand i feel.

Optimally i think both an analog and digital path is what im after.

I'm doing everything OTB, but that's just how I am because I like turning knobs, pushing buttons and seeing real blinking lights on a console!

But to interface to the digital world, I am looking for some decent AD/DA converters. I was looking at the Lavry black series. Anyone else use them?
