From what I understand they buy a lot of their stock from Apollo...

I would be extremely surprised if that were true. MDC don't look or sound like the Apollo I was buying a few years ago.

Always been a pain to get these in a quantity that I need. No way these come from Apollo. Different color, smell and the cut totally different.

Several plating shops and cutters seem to prefer them. I like them when I can use them. To me they seem a bit "softer"and the grooves tend to look cleaner under the scope.

I just cannot get them fast enough.

I switched because they are quieter. I agree they seem softer. Have to be careful with groove echo.

Lacquers are not known for consistency. Mdc, transco, Apollo, etc all do come softer harder etc.
the process simply does not allow for it
The comments here are valid of course we have been using all of these for many years after 10k plus sides hard to tell what's what better worst preferred etc.
all pros here know there are differences within a box of them let alone a brand. At the end of the day we do better than Henry's you can have any colour you want so long it is black. We have black and not so black.
Best

I agree with Mossy here. A bad batch to me has always been defined as imperfections with the disc & coating, not necessarily the lacquer compound itself.
If the chip doesn't pick up, you make some adjustments to the suction strength or the tube etc…

Discs that are bent, have bubbles, aluminum specks in the lacquer, unevenly coated etc…. these are the issues that affect us daily on a per box basis.

how about EU? who sells these here?

our local cutting studio gets better results with the MDC blanks (at least with the recent batches) so it's good to have an eye on the suppliers..
