DIY vinyl with silicone molds and casting resin

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

Getting great results from mold making is not easy.
the hard part about it is you only get 1 shot at it.
so you need to think out your plan very well.
take a look at these Grampian and Audax parts I made a few months ago.
both parts were molded as you see them.

You guys get very good results. I always have a problem with air bubbles messing up the resin once it has dried.

I've been experimenting with casting records from resin as well. I have a degasser for the rubber mold (I'm using Smoothon 30) which definitely helped reduce surface imperfections in the mold but I'm still getting too many pops in the resulting cast. I'm not sure if the pops are coming from just the mold or from air in the poured resin. I'm currently using a fast setting resin but I also have a polyester resin but it seems to take forever to cure because of how thin the record is and it smells terrible (I pour it outside with a mask).
