Hanoi Amator Project (HAP)

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

Looks like a fun project.

One thing, I wouldn't use wood to carry the over head. The mechanical movement could cause movement overtime in the support.

Yes, I know its better if I use in metal, however it is more difficult to make now, I will rebuild in metal when I finish some other parts: head cut, speed control,..
I'm wondering what should I choose the transducer: This one https://www.adafruit.com/product/1785 or https://www.adafruit.com/product/1784 or I DIY :)
pls give me advices, tk uuuuu!

You can find at CNC store to buy it.
This is one old arm of a robot, I think so :D

The Sparkfun/Adafruit type transducers are not your only options. Have a look here for instance :- https://www.parts-express.com/cat/exciters-tactile-transducers/18 I've made an as yet "Untested" Cutterhead, my Soul Sculptor Head :- https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6556 using these transducers, however Fred used some transducers of a similar type with great results (https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-daex30hesf-4-high-efficiency-steered-flux-exciter-with-shielding-30mm-40w-4-oh--295-240) check this out where Fred shows the making of his Cutterhead too :- https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=6866
Hope this helps

Thank you Soulbear, this helps me alot! Actually Iam based in Vietnam, so have to try to find which one I can buy easily.
And how many Watts the transducer should be, Soul? :?: :|

Soulbear! I've been waiting so long to hear your cutterhead!

I'm embossing with that parts express speaker, it does work fairly well, you can check out my thread here; https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7323

I've got some of the small adafruit transducers on the way at the moment

Not sure if anyone else had the same issue (I'm a little rough..) but the coil did decouple from the cone on the parts express speaker, I managed to reattach it but had to forfeit the centering ring, so I get some wild resonant frequencies

What are the specs on the stepper motors? Better than nema17s?

Hi jjwharris,
How is your project going? This is the spec of my stepper motor (28BYJ-48 12Vol), it is small and rather quiet.

Diameter: 28mm

Voltage: 12V

Stepping angle: 5.625 x 1/64

Reduction ratio: 1/64

5-wire 4-phase can use ordinary uln2003 chip driver,

Can also be connected to a 2-phase use can make supporting the development board

Use, direct plug, easy to use stepper motor used in the development board

I'm pretty happy with it, looking at improving the turntable and reducing stepper noise, that's why I'm interested in that stepper motor you're using, maybe I'll get one and give it a go.

Have you seen these stepper motor drivers?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ebhi-vZRY

The silent step mode can lower torque, but, wow, that seems silent.

I think noisy or silent is not depends on driver, it depends on how many step to make around, microstep... So it is motor and the way to write code for Arduino.

https://www.trinamic.com/fileadmin/assets/Products/ICs_Documents/TMC2130_datasheet.pdf

Page 49 of that PDF explains the silentchop mode, from my understanding it provides more of a PWM control which results in a smoother motor motion, but also lower torque. I imagine the issue would be if it miss-steps, from not enough torque mucking up your LPI.

On my setup I still get slight stepper noise despite isolating the stepper motor with a rubber belt and butanol and foam between components.

I change the motor to 24v AC, 1RPM and plus some pulley, it is very smooth and silent. The speed now is 5mm/min (is the speed ok??)
I also change as clip
Cheers!

Looks great! What this thing that you touch with your finger at the end of the video is doing and how do you call it in english?

Thanks,

That is quiet!

There is a guide on Aardvark http://www.aardvarkmastering.com/riaa.htm

You need to be looking at lines per inch

You have a pretty course pitch lead screw there. The pulley ratio you have might be in the ball park for lead in / lead out - hard to tell from the video. If you swap the pulleys, it will get you closer to a reasonable rotation for normal grooves but still looks to fast for that lead screw to me. Can you tell us the pitch of that lead screw, and the RPM of the motor (or did I miss that)?

My motor is a gear motor, if connect directly to pitch screw I can not turn pitch screw to move back when finish cutting or I have to wait same time if change motor direction. So I add one more pulley to cut off manually.
The pitch screw is 2mm/round, motor is 1 RPM so I add Pulley to increase pitch screw speed to 2.5 RPM.
