EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN REK O CUT IMPERIAL ON EBAY

It took me awhile to get her all cleaned up and ready for sale.

She is a beauty, very low miles, light use since new.
I purchased 4 record lathes from a local retired DJ/Radio host many years ago
and now it's time to pass them along to someone who will make good use of them.
This old girl truly needs to be back in the think of things,
she really needs to do what she was made to do - make beautiful music.

She is in exceptionally nice cosmetic condition, plays loud and clear.
I have no way of testing the lathe as I have no clue how to cut a record.

Yes, shipping is via UPs, she is heavy (but you already knew that)
and she is located in Canada.

I will crate her up for free but UPS has to get their share to ship this over weight girl.

Please see eBay ad for terms and conditions.

===============================================

LOTS OF PICS HERE:
http://s201.photobucket.com/user/moefuzzz/slideshow/ALL%20RECORD%20LATHES/REKOKUT

She is a Former "Live On Location"
Radio Station Record Lathe
.
This old girl is exceptionally nice and clean.
She is in very nice low mileage condition.
You would be hard pressed to find a cosmetically nicer one on this green earth..
-The Lathe Has Cut very few 'on location' recordings in it's lifetime,
Please read on....
.
I've had this Lathe in my collection for about 20 years and
it's time to move her along to some one
who will appreciate her for what she is.
And in my humble opinion, she is naturally beautifully.
.
The rek o kut plays loud from both the record and from auxiliary input.
.
It sounds pretty darn good and I was actually
quite impressed at the amount of power it puts out.
.
She really cranks out the tunes....
..It's amazing how loud actual "Tube Watts" are.
As far as volume goes, I had it up to about 4 on the dial
and it was -really- -very- Impressive!
Yesterdays "Tube Watts" are certainly much bigger than
most amps you'll find at the local stereo store today..
This girl will fill a dance hall with loud music.
.
.
As part of her regular maintenance,
I pulled the table off and cleaned the shafts and wheels then gave the
shafts a light drop of machine oil (more on that in a bit).
.
The tone arm is a 160 series in good condition.
Both 33/45 and 78 needle are functioning on the 160 tonearm.
I believe the cartridge is original and is magnetic?
.
The cutter comes with a 210 thread drive screw and an Audax Cutter with what I *think* is a sapphire needle as it appears to be crystal of some sort
but you would probably know more about that than I so don't quote me on the *Sapphire* needle bit.
-The cutter appears clear and glassy or crystalline looking,
I tried to get a good close up of the cutter/needle.
.
.
.
The REK O CUT comes with 3 idler wheels, 33 and 78 are currently installed and the 45 wheel is in the cubby hole in the lid.
.
.
Speaking of the lid,
Lid and hinges in very good condition with light wear.
Speakers grille is in good shape.
The cabinet is in very good to excellent shape.
Original thick leather? handle is in very good condition.
.
Front face plate and dials in excellent to new condition.
The bass knob/pot is just a little noisy so expect that you'll want to de-oxy or clean and lube the pots -regular maintenance.
.
I have 4 lathes,
This Rek o Kut, a Messner and 2 Marconi Recordios.
All of which came to me from a local retired looong time Radio host.
.
-All 4 of my lathes were owned by the same 50,000 watt radio station
and according to the retired DJ I required them from,
The Rek o Kut got the least use as it was the heaviest to hall around to the "live on location" gigs.
.
Long time local radio personality 'Ken' informed me that he only used the Rek o Kut when they needed to record onto large platters, which would equate to longer "live" recordings or concerts etc.. Ken informed me that the Rek O Kut was retired in the mid 60's when the station acquired a portable reel to reel player.
.
-You can call him an odd ball but Ken kept every waste ball of schwarf from every on sight live broadcast that the Rek o Kut every went to and he holed the schwarf away into an old Rexall drugstore paper bag which he kept in the cubby hole in the lid of the Rek o Kut.
So as a bonus, you also get about 55 balls of 'live on location' record schwarf.
...OK, you may laugh but the carefully kept record remnants are part of the history of this machine and have been with it since it's earliest days so I'm not gonna be the one to throw them away. I am kinda nostalgic as well as sentimental in much the same way as Ken was.
.
The lathe has cut relatively few records and was only carried to "live on location" gigs a few times a year during it's working lifetime.
.
Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you
.
.
.
I did not test the actual cutter as I surely don't know what I am doing..
I am assuming that it may or may not need some maintenance or adjustment
and that there will defiantly be a learning curve for the new owner before he is fully knowledgeable and comfortable with cutting records.
The cutting mechanism may or it may not also need service, cleaning and/or light oiling. That I will leave in your capable hands.
I am expecting that the cutter works as well as the rest of the machine but then again, it is sold as untested so please use your discretion.

.
.
Lets continue....
.
-I plugged my cd player into the "Radio" (auxiliary) phone jack and am happy to report that the Rek O Kut sounds good playing cd's thru the auxiliary/radio input.
I also tested it on both 78 and 33 with some Johnny Cash (78) and some Johnny and Jack (33 1/3).
Once I had cleaned the shafts and wheels (as well as the inner turntable ring), and lubed the shafts, I was able to get the speeds set up nicely.
The turntable works well, It is surprisingly very loud for an old tube amp and all controls work but could probably use a little de-oxy/cleaning which I'll leave up to you.
.
.
I will include, free of charge,
a dozen or ~so~ blank records of varying sizes.
There is no guarantee on the free blanks as to viability.
The blank records are free so please, no complaints.
They will however give you a chance to fiddle around with things and get to know your new Rek O Kut..
.
Yes, this girl is heavy, but if your into record lathes you already know that.
.
It is over weight for regular post so it will be shipped From Canada via UPS.
Shipping is what it is and there is no avoiding it unless you want to pick it up locally.
.
I will have to build a light weight crate for it to slide into.
.
I can fill out all necessary customs forms from here.
Consider this, Because the original country of manufacture is USA,
there will be no taxes or duties when it returns back to it's homeland.
Doubly, it is also tax exempt due to it's "antique" age. (older than 25 years).
.
It should travel easily back to it's home country
with no "import" duty or additional tax problems.

I am willing to crate it up for free (at my expense) using light plywood or veneer to help insure a trouble free trip.
.
Actual shipping and insurance is the buyers responsibility.
.
Again, please look carefully at the pictures as they are part of the description.
This girl will leave my house in beautiful, very clean condition.
It is working nicely and plays LOUD.
The actual cutting lath is sold as untested as I have no manual am not knowledgeable enough to try and cut a record.
.
.
Still, she is in very nice low mileage condition and has seen relatively light use during her lifetime.
You would be hard pressed to find a nicer one on this green earth.
She really is a thing of beauty.
.

SHIPPING INCLUDES TRACKING NUMBER FROM CANADA.

PLEASE NOTE,

NEW-UPDATE

Today, We were lucky enough to be visited by a Long Time Member of the LatheTrolls (Forum) and with his help, we were able to successfully cut a record.
The Lathe is working/cutting well
and playback of our first cut sounded good considering I have had no formal training or experience with cutting a record.
... And with that, I am now the proud owner of Nenah Cherry's "Buffalo Stance" recorded on to a 7" at 33 1/3 rpm. :D

And even though she is cutting/recording and playing back nicely, I still expect that it may or may not need some maintenance or adjustment
and that there will defiantly be a learning curve for the new owner before he/she is fully knowledgeable and comfortable with cutting records.

.

Stand by for further updates,

I am going to pull all tubes and test them on my tube tester..

Pictures and test results to follow in next update..

On Sunday I tested all the tubes, pics of results below.

All tested very good except one of the 6v6GT tubes tested slightly lower than the other.

The pair of 6V6GT are the amplifier tubes.
For best results it would be recommended to acquire a matching set of amplifier tubes
as they work in pairs.
6V6GT amplifier tubes get noisier the weaker/older they get. they leak noise.

Also, I noticed that only one of the 6v6GT tubes is internally shielded.
It's advisable to use internally shielded amplifier tubes as they emit rf energy and can make noise inside the RF and AF stages of an amp.

Although many companies manufactured shielded amplifier tubes, some did not.

The shielding help prevent erroneous noise from being picked up inside the circuits which could end up causing unwanted internal noise or interference.

-Because this is a recording devise, it would be prudent to use shielded tubes so
I will ship at my expense a matched set of shielded 6v6GT directly to the buyers address upon purchase of the Rek O Kut
