Hi There,
Almost forgot this too, silly me!! As far as I can tell, your "Laydown Grampian" is a "Variant" but the "Techie Stuff" may well still be relevant.

Thanks much! I'm likely going to sell this one...it came with an rca unit i bought and i have 2 other rca heads...one just rebuilt so i don't really need it. I assume this is a feedback unit which i don't have any experience with or an amp for.

Hi There,

Well certainly, if it's configured like the one in those few Photo's, one pair of leads would be for Driving the Cutterhead, the other pair would be the feedback signal. Hope this Helps.

I'm sure someone here on the forum would give your Grampian a good home. As well as RCA Lathes the Grampian's sit rather well on the UK built MSS Lathes too!!

It appears to be non feedback or modified or i can't see where the leftmost terminals go in the mechanism. The tabs are broken off on the back removeable plug. I get 5.6 ohm on the rightmost terminals...no reading on the left.

Yes, the Grampian Type C is regular moving iron design without the "feedback" coil.
Type C/H should be the same just in the Horizontal case for mounting on some small desktop lathes.
if the magnet is strong should be a nice head for mono dubs..

If you want to get rid feel free to contact me :-)
Cheers

RCA 70 are not as common as the presto and rek-o-kut Units but should give decent results when proper set up!
