Practical Disc Recording (1948) - Richard H. Dorf

A spot for keeping track of especially cool (informative, fun) videos, photos, scans and other links about record cutting. (You can post them in other sections. Eventually they may end up here.) NOTE: Please put *Circuits, Schematics and Manuals* in the section with that name.

Picked up an old and rather fragile copy of this one, so it's best to scan it in before it turns to dust. Interesting note - my printer made it searchable, I had no idea it could do that!

Well enjoy this oldie but goody.. And let me know if you find pages out of order or anything.

I have a copy of this book as well, I have been extolling the virtues of it for some time, it should be essential reading for all newbies, as it covers the basic principles of how to go about cutting a disc.

Including how to do a lock groove on a non automatic lathe, it's a bit out of date but then the whole game of cutting discs has essentially not changed that much in 100 plus years. It's essential reading and provides basic understanding IMHO.

Not the best quality scan though I have to say good work non the less as I failed miserably in scanning a copy (only got a new scanner a couple of weeks ago). The clarity in the original print especially in the pictures is much better.

I noticed this was a 1952 reprint, meaning that this didn't account either for magnetic tape recording and transfer to disc, or the newer 45 RPM speed. But for the period before these developments, this is indeed invaluable.

What is the difference between this unclean copy and the original copy at top of the link? Yes it is useful but it still remains on my to do list.
