Neumann VMS-80, VMS-82: Schematics and manual and more!

We have Barry Wolifson, Chief Technical Engineer of Sterling Sound, to thank for this collection of Neumann schematics, manuals and Gotham Engineering Bulletins. Most or all of it applies to the VMS-80 and VMS-82. He feels that it's important that as many interested people have this data as possible, for the sake of the future maintenance and survival of the technology. It is my understanding that he scanned them himself.

His memory is that there were only about 70 total lathes made between these two models: 34 of one of them and 36 of the other. The serial numbers were between 21 (or so) and 90 (or so). He'd love to see an inventory developed of where these are in the world at this point in time, and their serial numbers. Let's start a thread on this in the "Reference" section.

He says that each VMS-80 was a little different than the others, as they were all hand-made. Sterling has had three different ones over time, and they currently have two. The schematics and manuals here refer to one or another of theirs, and may NOT refer accurately to yours.

Grab these while you can. I am not entirely sure how long I can keep them up. Though, is the corporation that owns this literature truly likely to take action, especially as they bulldozed their record cutting operation long ago? Does it even harm them? We'll see what happens.

I also have a bunch of earlier Neumann stuff. However, I think it is the scanning work of that guy selling the "Neumann documents DVD" on ebay. As that person did a bunch of work assembling that stuff, I don't feel right depriving him of income. If that DVD ceases to be available, let me know.

Again ... if this information proves useful to you, please consider contributing financially to this site and help me to keep it going, so it can further serve you.

Thank you Barry!!

The conventional uploader is not working. Let's try this instead:

First three parts are schematics....

https://lathetrolls.com/cabinet/VMS-80-pt1-4.zip

https://lathetrolls.com/cabinet/VMS-80-pt2-4.zip

https://lathetrolls.com/cabinet/VMS-80-pt3-4.zip

....fourth part contains manual and more.

https://lathetrolls.com/cabinet/VMS-80-82-pt4-4.zip

OR....if you prefer to download it all at once, here it is in one 81.8 MB file:

https://lathetrolls.com/cabinet/VMS80-VMS82.zip

Thanks Barry and Steve....have started a VMS 80 Owners Club in the reference section. We'll see how many are interested in disclosing the whereabouts of these machines! 8)
