thanks Rolandjays! That feed screw i got from you is working good on the 6n. i can fit so much more music on the disc now compared to what screw i had before which was a 120 lpi. The cool thing is i do not really have to adjust the levels.

The brand of plates i use are the ones from Party City. They come in packs of 50 and come in a small range of colors.

Listen to the soundcloud sample i posted to give you a example of how much surface noise is present.
The plate was cut with the presto k8 with 5c cutting head with a old sapphire shank.

For me i kinda like the lofi sound as it goes with my style of music.

Heres a short clip of a diy lathe cut scratch record i made on a plastic plate.

As you can see in the video it tracks pretty well and the sound is holding up. I think if i make the spindle hole just a bit more small it will prevent the needle from wobbling around.

I am still experimenting!

The record was cut on a Presto K8 with a $7 shank from russia.

Any more to say bout the russian shank? I know youve probably experimented enuff over the last year or so. If its workable for mono lofi then im gonna have to score some, cant beat that price!
How many plates you cutting with one?
respect,
patrick

Thanks for the feedback!

As for the shank life, i can cut around 200 7" picnic plates until i notice a decrease in fidelity.
Usually you will here more surface noise in the record and the volume will be lower.

I say for the price its a good deal if your just experimenting.

I finally got a proper dash pot for my 6n.

Still dialing in the eq for this Neumann head.

Hey, can you post link to those plates? I would like to experiment also but I'm in EU and don't know the USA brands.

Thanks!

I have a fairchild head like that in my loft always wanted to compare it to the presto 1D that I have but never did and I have not cut anything for about 10 years, was tempted to get rid of all my stuff but I think I will miss it too hard to get hold of .

I saw you should keep your gear! for me I take breaks on cutting records and always get the itch to make some cuts.
