Good business idea. Perhaps I could add "Expensive pictures through a microscope" on my list of services too. But, you would still have no way of knowing if what you will be getting back is a single picture or series of 3000 pictures overlayed. The usb microscope pics look pretty good. I am just a bit old fashioned and prefer having a quick look through glass without too much unnecessary technology. The idea is also to be able to see what you need to see fairly quickly. Overlaying a series of pictures at different focal planes using software doesn't sound very quick to me...Sillitoe wrote:Here's the reply
"Dear Mr. Sillitoe,
thank you for your interest in our products.
If you send us a sample of your preparation, we can make demonstration pictures. We can use different optical methods and focusing techniques.
This service costs € 380 exkl. VAT"
Interested to see what you come up with Jesus (go for the electron microscope )
Cheers
James

3000 pictures overlaid???
Re: Groove and Stylus Inspection Optics
Another good way is to scan it. But it will not give you super fine details.
This is scan of black record at 12800 dpi (Epson V700).

Resurrecting this thread while looking for an up to date USB microscope.
Stumbled upon a brand called [https://www.dinolite.us/features/]Dino-Lite..[/url] wasn't considering it serious cause of the name.. mmh finally decided to check the specifications to try understanding such a steep pricing. Well these seem like serious candidates to our needs..
I'm probably going to try their AM4013TL, I'll report here.

Thanks Bob, I confirm that Dino-Lite's AM4013TL is good for groove/ stylus inspection. Their range of camera eyepecies offers a cheaper alternative for those who already own a microscope.

Re: Groove and Stylus Inspection Optics
I went old school and got a Clarkstan groove inspection microscope on eBay, it should be with me in a couple of days. From the USA to UK, for those that wish not to be sick at how much I paid, do not go do a search to find out but around US$20 and same again for shipping. It has a built in reticule as well.
I have a question is groove depth a function of velocity? How do you determine what the desired groove depth is? I may need to go refresh myself of the cutting charts as the ones I found my computer are the old ones I think and make no reference to groove/land space ratio or to depth or groove width. It runs off a battery no idea what size until it gets here nor do I know what sort of light bulb is in their either until it arrives on or around Tuesday. The only bummer is the box is missing its lid.

I was looking to purchase this microscope (dinolite) and saw your comment. After 5 years, are you still satisfied?
I'm hesitant to purchase a microscope on Double-Arm Boom Stand but have no clue of what is the best.
Do you have an idea? What are the specs that I should be looking for if I want to examine the grooves?
Thanks!
