Re: Suggested cutting amp

Hi Alfred, Talk about serendipititous, MRATX has just posted for sale, in the classified and tip off section, what you may possibly need, and all for the princely sum of $5 + postage. Remember that the impedance of the Fairchild is stated as 500 Ohms and this is calculated when powered with a highly...

Re: Suggested cutting amp

Hi Alfred, Here we are again eh? Are you sure for certain that the Cutterheads DC Resistance is 8 Ohms when measured with an accurate Meter? Be sure to re-check the Range of your Test Meter and ensure there's no multiplier on the range selection that you're reading, as the specifications for the Fai...

Hi There, I've been on a mission on your behalf up into my loft to retrieve the Oliver Read book so I could give you the title (Almost did myself a mischief into the bargain) I then went on the WWW and Googawotsited the title and guess what? Oliver Read's excellent book "The Recording and Reproducti...

Re: FAIRCHILD 541A-312 CUTTER HEAD

Hi Alfred, I'm glad that it worked out for you, my input was intuitive, rather than being based on ownership and experience of a Fairchild CutterHead, although as I've previously said, I really would have liked to own a Fairchild but I ain't gonna be payin' Silly Bollocks Prices to become an owner. ...

Re: FAIRCHILD 541A-312 CUTTER HEAD

Hi Alfred, I wouldn't start removing any metal from the pole pieces that you have dismantled. Can you remount the pole pieces but insert the spacing paper as Em has advised, re-tighten the pole piece mounting screws with the paper spacers in-situ, once re-tightened then remove the paper? I know it's...

Re: FAIRCHILD 541A-312 CUTTER HEAD

Hi Alfred, I do not own a Fairchild Cutterhead, although twice in recent times I appear to have been the underbidder at auction. I searched out the information on the Fairchild 541 in anticipation of becoming an owner only to miss out on the purchase of the same. I am aiming in the dark here, and if...

Re: FAIRCHILD 541A-312 CUTTER HEAD

Hi Alfred, Looking at your uploaded photos, it looks very much like Em hit the nail on the head with the Armature/Stylus Holder adjustment tips. It certainly looks like there is no space between the pole faces that the Armature could freely move into. Check out the photos and video on my "There Once...

Re: Heater Supply Schematics

Hi KTG, Yup, they are all over the bay for peanuts, I currently own 4 of these, I'm hopefully incorporating them into my Lathe for Leadscrew Feed Motor Contol. Gonna attempt to correlate % Duty Cycle Indication with Cutting Duration and make a Cutting Chart so I Know what Duty Cycle to dial in for a...

Re: Heater Supply Schematics

Hi KTG, Thanks for the circuit explanation and updating it, and yes, I was curious as to why the diode needed to be so beefy. I just pulled that circuit off the web for a little side project of mine. I also shoulda spotted that the 4.7K pot would wind the output too far up for most heaters. In my de...

Re: Heater Supply Schematics

Hi There, I came across a version of this whilst doing some research for an electro-plating supply on a side project of mine. I've modified it only slightly and I thought it might be useful to fellow Trolls as a simple to construct Stylus Heating Control Circuit which uses a minimum of inexpensive a...

Re: New To Cutting!

Hi There, Just a thought, you might want to consider putting a much lower rated fuse than the 5-600milliamps thats been suggested, just some info from my "Ugly Duckling" thread Ugly Ducklings D.C. Resistance is 180 Ohms so I've estimated this is a 500 Ohm impedance Cutterhead. I've conservatively gi...
