Re: NOW AVAILABLE: Book: Basic Disc Mastering, 2nd Ed. (Bode
Hi Emidisc, Yup used them fairly frequently too, Deroy or Delroy Sound Services I think they were called back when I resided in Lancashire. I lived in Blackpool but worked as an Electrical Test Engineer for G.E.C Traction over in Preston. Bought some real goodies in Lytham St Annes too whilst I was ...

Hi Emidisc, (Love that handle by the way, bought a few Emidiscs of rare soul back in the 60s whilst attending the Soul Allnighters at the King Mojo in Sheffield and Twisted Wheel in Manchester and many, many, many others, too many to remember, into the 70s and beyond) The Basic Disc Mastering 2nd ed...

Hi Dimi. Yes, I've just about landed back on "Planet Earth" after all that coffee te he  Just kidding, that coffee brand is one I mostly use, and I invariably re-purpose the jars as storage containers, because they are so useful once the coffee is gone. I guess it's nowadays called re-cycli...

Re: Record press? Probably not!
Hi There Aussie & Mark, I'm ready to stand corrected if indeed this is a dinking machine. Maybe I misinterpreted what I saw and that "Big Joe" or whoever it was, was simply helping out on the post-production, or re-finishing of his latest release, as a photo opportunity or for a publicity shot. I ma...

Re: Record press? Probably not!
Hi There' Almost forgot, I think the hand wheel type gizmo shown on the photo is used to rotate the stampers whilst they are still closed. This is to facilitate the trimming and removal of any of the excess vinyl once the biscuit is completly squashed. There must surely be some info out there on Goo...

Re: Record press? Probably not!
Hi There, I've got a really old book somewhere, up in my loft I think, it's by an author called Paul Oliver or something similar, if memory serves me well. "A History of the Blues" is I think the books title. Well I'm pretty sure that somewhere within that book is a photo of Big Joe Turner, and he i...

Re: Reversing an aquarium vacuum pump
Hi Jeff, (And of course any interested Trolls following this thread) I've just run a little test, I've not got the propper connectors, so this is based on a "Heath Robinson" rubber seal to the back of an industrial Vacuum Gauge manufactured to the relevant British and International Standards ( BS IS...

Re: Reversing an aquarium vacuum pump
Hi Jeff, Ref - Drill Bits, I use this type:- Drill Bit.JPG I use the smallest drill bit in a High Speed Multi-Tool, then follow it through with the next size up if neccessary, then if I need to make the hole larger still, I have to switch to a conventional Hand-Held Pistol Drill because the chuck ca...

Re: Reversing an aquarium vacuum pump
Hi Jeff, Thanks for the Link regarding Pump Model/Type. Gotta be the easiest conversion ever, 5 minutes tops, but being pedantic, the valve plate is rotated 180deg not 90deg te he!. The little Mod made a nice change from my "Panel Wiring and Ground Loop Elimination" activities that seem to have kept...

Re: Reversing an aquarium vacuum pump
Hi Jeff, I read elsewhere on the forum about Aquatic Pumps being used for Vacuum. What I think would be really useful for both myself, and fellow Trolls developing their own Lathes, are Types/Manufacturers/Models/Details/Details/Details. I recently contacted a leading U.K. Manufacturer/Distributor o...

Re: edison cylinder recording / listen to this !!!
Hi There, Kudos to you, a splendid payoff for all your experimental endeavours, I've heard many, many, cylinder recordings but this is by far and away, the clearest I've ever heard. This is a real step-change in audio quality from this archaic medium, which was all part of the formative process lead...

Re: Direct to disk recording machine 1940's era
Hi There,
Have a look on this site where there are also links to the Washford Radio Museum where a number of 1930s/40s Disc Cutters now reside. Who knows they may loan you a machine in return for publicising the Museum

Hi Trolls, The Technology Goddess has been so busy as of late, rehearsing and performing with the various bands, ensembles, and orchestras she's a member of, she's not been able to record the little Video I mentioned in my last post of Ugly Duckling doin' its thing. Hi Ray, And welcome to the Lathe Trolls, I'm fairly new here too, but I'm sure you'll find, as I have, a great wealth of information squirrelled away within the various sub-forums. And don't be afraid to ask questions, the knowledge possesed by the "Wise Heads & Elders" of the forum is priceless. Re...

H Trolls' Ugly Ducklin' Vid.2 Mov.MOV Well now, I'm sure you'll all agree, this is a great improvement in performance, compared to the video in my earlier post. As excited as I was about this superb improvement, I still felt there are other changes to be be made to "Ugly Duckling" which will lead to...

Hi Trolls, As I stated in my earlier post, I made some different springs using "Fat Max" shears + this Hole Punch.JPG These stiffer springs had little to no effect when trying to make the Armature/StylusHolder self centre, for reference here's some of the springs I made Springs.JPG Unlike many other...

Re: World's First Stereo Recording June 1 1934
Hi There, I don't wish to sow discord amongst members this small Secret Society but Stevie's assertion does have some factual merit. I would refer anyone so interested, to read the superb biographical book by Robert Charles Alexander "The Inventor of Stereo:The Life and Works of Alan Dower Blumlein"...
