Re: Made A Trip to Germany Last Week: Newbilt

chris, the questions raised by others since the beginning of the thread have been valid and have sparked a bunch of comments on the workings of a manual press, which was missing on the board. so even if you dont like the tone of these comments, they have indeed provoked something positive. when the ...

Re: Cutterhead SX-74 problems!

whats is the muth method? if you drop 20 dbs @ around 5k then most likely you would go into positive feedback oscillation and breakers would trip. u should try to use an fft to measure or compare your distortions levels against another reference cut. you have a nab test record? i think you are still...

Cutterhead SX-74 problems!

i think you really need a pro there to assist you. where are you located? i might be wrong here but if you took the coils from the head armature then you could have demagnetized it. i was reading your post and the terminology you use is wrong or incorrect. you say you replaced chips and capacity. ca...

Re: Made A Trip to Germany Last Week: Newbilt

So, from the pictures.. I dont know if those are 2 different presses on the photographs but it seems to me that these are 2 original finebilts. Or these are presses made with some original Finebilt parts. Also, the "Newbilt" faceplate looks to be big enough to hide the "Finebilt" impressed on the to...

Re: Made A Trip to Germany Last Week: Newbilt

ok, a couple of things after looking at the pictures. this looks like an original finebilt. the top plate looks exactly like the original cast molded top plate. the edges and and the post fitting holes are rounded just like the original. the cylinder also looks like the original cast molded ones wit...

Re: Made A Trip to Germany Last Week: Newbilt

nice. doesnt look bad. was the extruder there? if so, was it working? i think they have done great building a replica of the original. as a press there is really not much to it. it looks that they have even copied the cylinder. i wonder if they used the same cup seal as the finebilts used. maybe the...

nice! have you tried latex or rubber hose instead the transparent tubbing that your are using? thesecan be a bit sticky and the chip tends to get stuck there after a while.

Re: Great photo of Doug Sax/Mastering Lab Scully lathe

thanks deke for this one.

the other thing is that it looks like its not driven by belts. there is an oil port on the front underneath the turntable.

might have been driven by a lyrec or a gear motor.
