Replacement Rubber for Neumann Lathes
I can now fabricate and offer replacement rubber for Lyrec turntable motors as well as drive box to lead screw coupling. I’m offering the Lyrec motor mount spacers in neoprene which is close to the original material. I’m also offering them in Sorbothane. The sorbothane works better than the neoprene...

Re: Playback Reference Stylus
 I keep a conical on the lathe arm as that is generally used for technical assessments and a mid line super elliptical on the record player because that sounds nicer... Different tools for different jobs. I use a Denon DL103 for that reason. Besides an Ortofon SPU, which is my too expensive...

Re: Any experience with a Neumann VAB-84?
Some of that CBS low frequency crossover box is coming back to me. It was in a card cage frame with VU meters. The inputs and outputs were transformer balanced with Melcor 1731 opamps. I think it was an EE with two crossover points. The reason I didn’t use them is that I was using a Neumann SP66 tap...

Re: Any experience with a Neumann VAB-84?
CBS had something as well didn't they as in house 'secret sauce'? As I recall it sucked like all the other similar attempts. I bought the lot of DisComputers from Sony. I was never able to get them going. There was a box that did the low frequency crossover. I didn’t have schematics for it. IiRC is...

Re: Any experience with a Neumann VAB-84?
This was also the era of the various attempts to compensate the playback geometry distortions, and as far as I can tell ALL of those boxes sounded worse then not using them. It goes back further than that. There are microswitches on the VMS66 for the Neumann system. Another flawed concept as it rel...

Re: Any experience with a Neumann VAB-84?
I’ve seen and heard them but never used them on a regular basis. The general consensus among people who have experience with them is that they are not worth the trouble. The sliding crossover point was more audible than a simple EE. The way the crossover was done is very interesting though. Wayne Ki...

Shaker Desk - A/B Path Console
http://www.saltmastering.com/Console/ConsoleDone-5.jpg It took fourteen years to get to this point. I think it was worth it, although not from a financial point of view. I believe it is functionally the most elaborate A/B path console ever made. The Preview and Modulation paths are the same except ...

Re: Rough edges on pressings / Dull trim tool ?
I remember that Lenid presses always had a sharper edge than SMT presses. I think it was the trim method. The labels on Lenid's were always great. On SMT the labels would tear more often.

Re: Amplifier Role-call / Preferences ??
I'll take look at those. I haven't heard of those drivers. Do you have to play any tricks in with the control signal to deal with the latency of the microprocessor or whatever you are using?
