Re: Gakken Toy Record Maker: Ovservations and Questions

You can't play records from the cutting head just with the tone arm. The cutting head is only for recording.

I figured out what the screw does. In the gakken kit there is a washer and I was wondering where that goes thanks.

Re: Gakken Toy Record Maker: Ovservations and Questions

I bought one of those cartridges and I used one of the needles in the package and it fit the gakken so it is working again. The needle piece just snaps on the existing cartridge.

Re: Testing a cartridge to see if it works

Hi Lathe guys, This is Jerry here. I am the seller of the cutting needles on ebay for $10 and the Tungsten ones for $15. I have done well in the year and half of sales. However, I have other cutters that need cartridge replacement (old crystal cartridges). I had one replaced about a year or so ago ...

Yes, absolutely, you have to cut the rim off the picnic plate, and cut or drill a hole in the middle.

I wonder why the CDs start skipping after a couple plays. I'm guessing the playback stylus wears out the grooves.
does it matter what side of the plate you cut on

Re: Recording question

I tried recording on a cd and it worked. I recorded from the radio but you can only play it back once or twice before it starts skipping. I am going some solo plates. does it matter which side you record on and you probably have to cut off the rim of the plate? thanks

Re: Recording question

Im with todd, definitely use tape to hold it down. also, when trying to cut grooves onto a CD, I've done this: -you should be cutting the shiny side -depending on your lathe, either face of the stylus might be useful on my recordette I could get some results with the regular stylus face, and also w...

Recording question

I got my cartridge back from gib and it works fine it plays nice. I am trying to record on cd does it matter which side and I took a 5-16 nut and drilled it out to fit the spindle and it fits right in the cd hole but the cd slips on the turntable.

Update on cartridge

A friend tried to repair my recordette cartridge but it did not work on my machine so I am sending it to Gib. The radio works and the turntable spins and I probably have to replace the mike on it.

Re: Wilcox gay head

The recordettes were made in the 50's because some of them had 45 speed also.
