Re: Looking for an engineer to cut a master lacquer

Hi, we can do that on our automated DMM lathes, but probably not on a lacquer one. We cut several similar records on our DMM lathes in the past and the software can do the requested automated head up/down/ready sequences without stopping the platter its rotating. We are quite overloaded with orders ...

There is a virtually standard by georg neumann which says that: "positive half-wave of a lateral recording has to move to edge of the record" knowing the relation between mono and stereo you can now define every polarity in your system. might be important for correct working of your vari-pitch. Re: updated list of DMM studios

Fonotec - they seem to have a connection with the former Master Media Productions (MMP) plant now called Interpress vinyl: www.interpressvinyl.com as their locations are very close - only several km between them. This would be the original Teldec lathe as they advertise takeover of Teldec/OK Media t...

Re: sound quality of the pressed records

It is measurable and sometimes also audible that lacquer / vinyl / pvc / copper master plate / nickel mother can have a little bit different sound on the same turntable+same stylus due to elasticity or rigidity of the particular material. But there should be no audible differencies when using variou...

Eh, I suppose you probably have no galvanic department there and don't cut 3000 lacquers per month as we do with DMM plates... ? :o

I think, it is much easier and convenient to cut lacquers in a dedicated mastering/cutting studio.

Re: cutting both dmm & lacquers with one VMS70?

The head suspension box and vacuum platter need to be different than the standard VMS70 to cut DMM. There is a chance that GZ is using a VMS70 to cut DMM with in-house mods- but I do not know 100% No, there is no chance cutting DMM plates at our VMS-70 here at GZ. We have no spare lacquer lathe so ...

Hi Phinster,
so the number 31 went to another studio? Or is there as a spare lathe? I can remember discussion about our and your 31s lathes in the other thread. Ours being a DMM lathe and yours being a lacquer one...

Re: Neumann Disk Mastering products

Maybe we should ask Flo about patents used in his old and new heads. And what about Vinylium products? They are using Neumann's design in some parts at least. If anybody wants to design a complete new cutting lathe then there will be no problems, but any copy of their product or a product based on t...

Re: updated list of vinyl record pressing plants

Hello Steve, just a small update, about the french ones in particular: SNADISC doesn't exist anymore, it was sold this year and definitely won't exist as a pressing plant anymore. Same for Magnetic Mastering, it is a priori no longer active, for a few years now. Hello, SNADISC is now part of our GZ...

Maybe that is one reason DMM never really took off too. Back in the day there were 12" copper blanks that refs were cut on. I don't know if any of the DMM facilities offer copper refs today..?? JJG In theory, it is possible to send a DMM ref. And I think that some specialized cutting studios (AR, P...
