Re: Taming sibilance while boosting highs
Have you tried a dynamic eq or maybe compression just applied to certain frequencies at the end of your chain? I would de-ess up front, and then do a final dynamic eq on the back to tame the problematic frequencies. You can hear it on the hit-hat, too, although it just comes across as extra sizzle o...

$20 for LT 20th Anniversary
I would like to suggest, for the members who are able, that we make $20 donations to celebrate the 20th anniversary. The "20 Big Years Thank You Steve" fundraiser, if you will.

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter
In Cakewalk you want to send the channel with your recording to a bus, and then apply the delay to the bus. In console view, you need to create a new bus, then, in the send section in the middle of the console channel for your track, set the send to go to that bus. Change the output for the channel ...

Re: Bypassing Amplifier on Presto K8 Lathe
Because Rek-O-Kut sold their overheads separately, it's relatively easy to find one for sale. You don't have to buy a Challenger or Imperial, you can just pick up a ROK overhead and a cutting head (ROK units usually didn't have great heads, so buying an overhead without a cutting head and buying the...

Re: Bypassing Amplifier on Presto K8 Lathe
Clearly the move is to hold off on buying anything until the DinSync NC V8 is out and can be evaluated, since that looks to be an overhead with a stereo cutting head and variable pitch for a good price. Supposedly available sometime next month. If it's good, you just add a modern amp and high torque...

6d style feedscrew clutch question
I acquired the feedscrew that used to belong to my Allied Recording branded 6D style overhead, and I was wondering if the normal 6d clutch works the same way. As you can see from the photo, the gear end detaches, and the end of the feedscrew has a notch in it and a small metal pin, which because of ...

Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
If that's the price, I suspect it might be a kit like their Re-303. Which works for me, although we'll have to see what parts you might have to source yourself.

Re: Rec-O-Kut Challenger For Sale on Reverb
Have you checked with Mike from recordlatheparts.com to see what he might have? He's user piaptk on the site, he sells refurbed lathes and parts, he may have something, and his stuff you know will be working.

Re: Rec-O-Kut Challenger For Sale on Reverb
There's a working Presto K8 on ebay that you can get for $2500, I'd suggest that's a better use of your cash. You could add a cutting head upgrade and speed adapters and have a nice functioning lathe for much less than that ROK. The cutting head on that ROK is not very good, so you're going to have ...

Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
A couple of people from the Analogue Heaven synth list spoke with Paul Barker from DInSync, and he said they will be announcing pricing and availability at Superbooth (May 8th-10th in Berlin.) Also, apparently they used a Reloop 7000 turntable on the prototype, not sure if that much torque is requir...

Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
I have some familiarity with Dinsync because of their synth stuff, but this seems strange since they generally do Roland related analog synth/drum machine kits. I wonder if this was developed by someone else who is just releasing it through Dinsync. Their rep in the analog synth world is pretty good...

Re: Is there a simple EQ circuit for adding RIAA recording EQ to an audio recording?
There are a lot of designs for this out there, people use them for testing phono preamps (you feed a flat signal into it to give it the RIAA curve, run the modified signal into the preamp, and theoretically you should get the flat signal out.) An article on one well-known design is attached.

FS:Rek-O-Kut B5 Overhead with crank
Selling a Rek-O-Kut B5 Masterpro 16" overhead, the model with the crank. No cutting head or head mount. Feedscrew is 120 lpi outside in. Good shape, haven't done any cutting with it since there's no head mount, but mounted it on a turntable to verify correct operation of both the standard carriage a...

I have a couple plastic ampex 7" ones, they're from old prerecorded tapes, a little beat up but functional. If you want one, how about $2 plus shipping?

I think it's actually two different overheads, the date stickers on the casings are different (Feb and April 1967), and only one has the additional electronics. Someone was bust back in 1967!

Interesting Rek-O-Kut overheads on ebay
Someone has listed two(!) modified Rek-O-Kut M12s overhead on ebay, they both appear to have been modified a while back to drive the leadscrew via a motor rather than from the turntable. It looks like they drilled a hole in the gear end and added a shaft and gear, and that is geared to a motor. One ...

Re: FS: presto 1c, Audax H4, Rek-O-Kut M5
It's the only one I've ever come across, I just mainly see 120 or 210 ones. If it had been a crank style I would have swapped out the feedscrew and sold it with a 120 and kept the 150!

Re: FS: presto 1c, Audax H4, Rek-O-Kut M5
Audax and M5 are sold. Presto 1C head has been reduced to $675 and now includes a matching transformer so you can use it with a modern 4/8/16 ohm amp.
