I was searching patents and stumbled across what appears to be a disc recorder switched on or off by the position of a flag on a pole!!
So i think this comes under recording devices!

Motor
You should be able to find a local company that can rewind motors but one off the top of my head is Heasells electrical engineers in Royston.
Have a look in the yellow pages and find local is best tho'

I was looking at the links to services that appear in a "sticky" note at the head of the forum. You should put yourself in there so people can find you. It's not very well used lately, that particular page but anyone with services to offer, remind us in the services/links pages!

Polycarbonate discs UK
Hi all, I am getting some polycarbonate discs laser cut from quality material (probably 2mm black makrolon). In the UK. Anyone interested PM me, please indicate what sizes and quantities you require.
Depending on interest, maybe try different materials, but initially some polycarbonates to get going.

Re: Plastics
Heated stylus and a lamp could heat the plastic enough to make it softer to cut, but not enough change its physical property. Not tempering it, but you could still use heat to soften the material, and this would probably change the consistency of the chip. Just like how it does with acetate. You mi...

Plastics
I think we're talking about two different properties here. Shock resistance and abrasion resistance are different things. Hardness is abrasion resistance. I can't remenber all the terminology so forgive me (college was many years ago) I think "Tempering" is shock resistance (correct my term if you k...

Patents (for research use)
As i'm sure everyone knows looking at patents can be very interesting and usefull, there seems to be no end of patents relating to disc recording. I was thinking it would be a good idea if a database was assembled with all relevant patents in it. It could then be searchable too. This could be an inv...

Recording media
Hi all, i've been reading through all the posts regarding the use of various plastics as recording media. I'm looking to get some discs cut but i am still unsure as to what material to use. Has anyone used several different types of plastic and made comparisons? The info here is a little disjointed,...

Plastic recording blanks
A convenient place for me to jump in and ask if anyone in the UK is cutting blank discs from any material? I need some blanks, I don't want to buy them from outside the UK as there is a place within walking distance of where i live that can make them, although i am very keen to support any trolls th...

Interesting, thankyou :D I've been wondering about these things! So the dashpot and spring arrangement allows for any warp to the disc? How is the mechanism driven? motor/gears? would there be any pics available? I'm putting thought into these problems for my own lathe project, and i just thought, i...

I've been looking at small vertical slides from a mini lathe for use as cutter depth control you can buy for about £40 and it gives control down to 0.001" http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12212003/Lathe%20Trolls/lathe%20slide.jpg It's basically how the neumans and scullys are made, if you've got a heavy enou...
