New Lacquer discs
Hello Trolls, I am looking for some UK based people with cutting facilities and experience, who can test some new lacquer dub-plates (i.e not suitable for plating) and give honest appraisal. I can't pay cash, but i can reward you with new discs. And if i can make a good product, i wont forget your h...

Heater Wire
My old MSS lathe just used plain copper wire about 0.2 mm wrapped around the diamond with short fly leads to a pair of terminals mounted to the side of the cutting head. This seems to give acceptable results, although the wire does burn out quite often, the heating makes it brittle.
It works for me!

Bootlegging
I have had limited dealings with only two pressing plants one in the UK and one in the check republic, and they were both doing bootlegs for customers (and not just 1 or 2). Considering i am an industry "outsider" i would suggest that bootlegging is very common, i've got enough UK dance bootlegs and...

Standards and things
Just read thru this thread, i'm not involved in disc manufacture at all, but i do record new material, and buy/sell Vinyl. These points made are all entirely valid and a good idea, but looking at the bigger picture. The AES already set standards etc and they have the clout to make things happen. So ...

Vinyl Blanks
Further to my last post about plastic blanks, after looking at some disks cut on a VinylRecorder machine, i have now seen two types, one like a pressed record that was 7" which from reading the latest posts i assume would be a Vestax blank and a 10" that looks to be cut from sheet plastic, presumabl...

DISCS
The vinyl recorder uses what i believe is pvc, i have used and inspected some 7" discs cut on the vinyl recorder. I believe they are pvc discs pressed in the usual way but with no recording on. I've been buying using and DJing vinyl for nearly 25 yrs so i am confident in my assesment. Some of my tes...

NEW RECORDING LATHES
Hello all, I haven't posted here for months, I got fed up with the "go and find it yourself" responses, so i did, but this post is quite refreshing! Been working on my own design for recording lathe with a feedback cutterhead for the past year. My aim was to make a machine able to produce usable one...

To Johannesgj
Yes it is totally possible to design and build a cutterhead, it's not complicated and it's all been done before. It is basically 2 voice coil motors (with feedback coils) coupled together by use of a tool (stylus) holder that is sprung so that the stylus returns to its resting point. Neumann used Be...
