What do you want to do? Cut records? If so, you need cash. And plenty of it. A full lathe setup even with older mono technology is going to cost you anywhere up to $1,000. A semi pro lathe costs $10,000. A pro lathe costs $20,000 - $30,000. I know I didn't have that kind of cash when I was 19. Look ...

Well, there have it. 7 hours is a very short lifespan for a cutting styli. So, though it can cut polycarb, the results probably won't be very clear. And, burning through a stylus that cost $40 - $80 every 7 hours is not good math...

Alpha Toolex have always been spoken of kindly on the forum. I have no personal knowledge. But, from what people have said, they seem to be good machines.

I totally agree...why not build a whole new turntable and pitch/depth control, designed with todays technology, that is meant to be used for cutting? Probably a pretty expensive endeavour, but a very worthy one! Already working on the updated pitch/depth control unit.... In about a year I hope to h...

To solve all these problems, just use the Rane PI14 when cutting. You can add a little bit of "this" and a little bit of "that" to compensate for all these problems. The stereo panning is excellent - with one knob you can pan from "here" to "there" and if you get lost along the way you can hit the ...

do you have the links ?
Please use the search feature of the forum. Look for Vinylium vs. Vinyl Recorder. You'll find them as well as a lot of good back and forth banter.

Hey, how about instead of measuring a useless statistic in a flawed way, we all try to figure out a new motor control system and motor?

The purpose of the test was to try to determine if Vinylium or Vinyl Recorder sounds better. It is an old debate here on the forum... Finally, enough cutters volunteered to cut the same material on their rigs with no real modification, clean cuts. The results have been surprising to say the least. T...

Yea you're right. Sorry. Speed up the audio before cutting.

Also, you risk damaging your cutterhead doing this FYI. Speeding up audio makes it essentially higer pitched. Cutterheads aren't meant to have sustained high frequencies passed through them. That can cause it to blow.

Time stretch your audio. You can figure out the math pretty easily. The concept is that if you cut slowed down audio on a disc moving at 78 and then play it back at 33/45 it will sound correct. That way you don't have to alter you lathe physically.

Nice man!!! Looks like a super clean tight build.

Im trying to make a design with the minimal parts possible. Less to go wrong over time. And, something upgradeable.

Its great to see other solutions! I love to see people create their own solutions. Even to complicated provlems.

And im not a physicist but whouldnt the heavier plate have more inertia once it was up to speed? I know that when I turn off the turntable at the end of a cut(I dont push stop because I think it would damage the brake) the plate spins alot longer and harder than a normal 1210 platter! I kno I dj al...
