@Flo - Ok. I take your advice under serious consideration. That is not a lot to have jvo come and give the lathe a good tuneup. I want to have a nice system that will run hassle free and at peak performance for a long time. I don't mind spending the money up front to get there.

I always think about the scientists who worked long and hard to make CD technology and uncompressed red book audio. They did all that development to provide realistic and clear digital audio. And, then the market turns around and says thats nice, but i'd rather have smaller files and shittier sound....

@Flo - The system is being fully restored by Al Grundy. As I understand it, he does exceptional work.

FYI Aussie0zborn, you can purchase WAV files instead of 320 kbps MP3 from sites like Beatport. So, one does not have to play MP3 even on a CD deck.

New VMS70 Owner seeks wisdom/advice/knowledge/suggestions

I will soon be acquiring a VMS70 system with a VG74b amp rack (including a bsb74 acceleration limiter) and an sx74 cutterhead. Fully restored, recap-ed and respooled. If you have any wisdom/advice/knowledge/suggestions that you would be so kind as to share, I would surely appreciate it! I'm not aski...

I dislike Serato for many reasons. 1. It is not 100% reliable. I've seen it crash. Also seen someone accidentally disconnect their external drive while playing. Not good. 2. It is like playing a video game. If you can adjust the pitch sliders on two turntable in order to make two lines on screen com...

@Flo - I would be interested in purchasing one of your 7" tone records when finished. I was looking for a N.A.B. test tone record because that is what Al Grundy had suggested. @mossboss - If I follow you correctly I can use a sine wave generator like the small boxes I used in physics labs in college...

Re: Cutting gear

that for the effort required to make these things one cannot make a living out of the sales generated Souri claims he is a millionaire in USD and by the end of this year will also be in Euros. So, sounds like he does ok. He has probably sold at least 50 systems in the last year. Souri also claims t...

I suggest asking each for a test cut. Souri will do this for you for free. Vinulium will charge you for it. In my opinion, sonically, they can produce very similar cuts. Vinylium is a plug and play system. Not much you need to set or calibrate. Fairly small system (amp rack, overhead mechanism, cutt...

All I was saying is that this guy spent the time and effort to make those particular scans and PDF's. If you own a copy of the same material and want to scan it and post it Ok. But posting his scans without his permission just didn't seem right to me. Guess no one agrees... By no means am I trying t...

@Yann I think it is in poor taste to post this material. Even though it is clearly not owned by you or the guy selling the DVD's, he did put in the time and effort to scan all the documents and make the PDF's. You didn't. You are giving away for free the hard work and dedication of someone else. I u...

Re: VMS

This CD is a complete and waste of time and money More about the Zuma than anything else Possibly it's been updated.... I purchased a copy and was pleased with the volume of information contained on it. It does have a full operations manual for the 66 machine which from my understanding is very sim...

I have been a computer programmer for 11 years. I can write code for Windows, Mac, Linux and IBM mainframes. Additionally, I write assembly language for embedded pic microchips. I would be happy to collaborate on a pitch controller board. Honestly, I think I could shrink an entire pitch controlling ...

Hello Vinylrecorder..... Possibly you should look at Souri's system as a basis for what you are wanting to do.

Are you going to try to build your own custom lathe? That would be a huge undertaking... I would suggest buying some home recorders first to see how they work. A lot of them worked on the same principals and designs. The larger Scully or Neumann lathes would be tough to copy. There are a number of p...

Wouldn't simply decreasing your lines per inch reduce the possibility of overcuts at higher levels???? If you are using the chart on this site that shows length of recording time by disc size and the equivalent LPI then I suggest you take the setting perscribed on the chart and then decrease it a bi...
