Excellent post that confirms what I have always suspected about the Vinyl Recorder. What a joke. Let this tyrant sit on his little island and hold all his golden systems hostage from the rest of us. Who gives a shit. Great business model.

Thanks Flo - that's very interesting data. I just bought this "Ultimate" record out of curiosity. I have the NAB record. Awaiting your new test record!

Did you do any similar tests on the Stan Ricker / Cardas test record?

Short version: records in 1950s-60s-70s genres should be cut with less aggressive levels, slightly deeper / wider-spaced grooves, with "Universally Compatible Vinyl" logo & ad campaign, to win back lost vinyl format business by folks feeling "betrayed" by untrackable new vinyl pressings on their fa...

Hi Flo - interesting things here. Could you maybe explain in more detail? hmmm. let the helium run through a glas (gold is even better) pyramide with a germanium (99.98) cube of exactly (sqrt(5)+1)/2 side lengt inside. this gives you another 2 extra dBs in the highs. and the sound becomes incredible...

If that's true then I definitely wish them the best. And I hope they reveal themselves sooner rather than later. Sounds like it would be a great plant.

I'm also following the manual's advice. I'm renting the smallest tank available - it's probably the same tank that the company rents to moms & clowns for balloons. Seems to be working fine. Maybe Kevin Gray could chime in here if he's had any experience with various types of helium and how they affe...

Ok - I can now answer my own question (found on this forum!). This is the place: http://www.toyokasei.com/ English website is of course small / limited. The Japanese version has a bigger pic of their cutting room: http://www.toyokasei.co.jp/jigyou/cutting/index.html Very nice, although confusing. Th...

Interesting, thanks for the reply. There must be something there - they're amazing fanatics. I once stumbled into a record store in Shibuya, Tokyo, that only sold reggae 45s only from the late 70s. And every record had an index card taped to it with a paragraph description written by an employee. Be...

What plant are we talking about here? Is this Gotta Groove that has the Toolex presses? I have only sent a few jobs there so far.

Where is Galvimat located? Outside the US? I happily send most lacquers to Mastercraft since they are right across the river from me in New Jersey. Other than MC I am not aware of any other independent electroplating places in the US.

Is there any truth to these rumours I've heard about a well-produced Japanese lacquer? Also there's supposedly some exquisite Japanese pressing plant still in existence? I'm conversational in Japanese and lived in Tokyo for 1 year (back in 2001) but wasn't involved in cutting at the time so I didn't...

Using an Apollo / Transco stylus (N320) combo here with good results. Don't see the need to change up the formula yet, although I am interested in experimenting with the Adamant styli at some point. Never used MDCs.

Hi everyone. First post. I've lurked on this forum for years and finally signed up. Thanks for everyone's contribution to the forum so far - I've learned quite a bit. I'm cutting on a VMS70/SX74/SAL74B system rebuilt by Al Grundy. I learned most everything I know about cutting from Al and Paul Gold ...
