Re: How to get high frequencies at the end of recording

If you are having unusually poor HF response towards the center you can check a few things. First, double check your repro side. It's critically important that your repro is properly calibrated, especially tonearm alignment. And while it's a good idea to use a modest cartridge for playback compatibi...

Re: New JAES paper on tracing distortions

This paper is as relevant now as it's ever been IMHO, and I look forward to giving it a proper read. Definitely! Distortion on playback is one of the most important things for all of us to understand. This is especially true in an era of cheap tables, conical styli, a young consumer base with littl...

Yeah, local panel. Nothing earth shattering. But I will have SimuLathe on a laptop for anyone who wants to see it.

Re: Lacquer storage temperature and humidity MDC

Apollo wanted a lot of humidity. Somewhere around 70% seemed optimal. MDC did not like that much. I keep them around 30-40%.

The humidor I build for Apollo is just a drawer now...

Re: Scully/Neumann/Lyrec/PTS/Pitch18 lathe build

I had the same issue when I moved to a camera.

Another option: set your caliper to a known gap, say 0.002" and look at it under the microscope. Now place a piece of tape on your monitor and mark that distance. Then you'll always have it on screen.

I have a small chunk of PVC, some gaffer's tape and a hose clamp.

Not sure why the image is rotated 90 degrees but you get the idea.

LED flashlight and a wall wart. Been using one in place of the stock lamp for years. All the forward facing brightness you ever dreamed of for about $10.

Isn’t that exactly what “hd vinyl” does?
Let's just say that's what they want to do, some day.

Re: Microscope Light Possibilities??

I have some random LED flashlight feeding the scope on my lathe. Hooked it up to a 5 volt wall wart and it's been working perfectly for many years. Experiment. Lots of ways to do it.

Re: Accurate monitoring of cuts

Test with several carts and shoot for the best average. Don't worry about anything higher than about 15k. A test record like https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Analogue-Test-Lp/dp/B001GBA71Y will give you measurable results.
