I really hate it when that happens. Not only does it deprive folks of the chance to nab some screws, but also, one - it's against eBay's terms, and two - it's unfair to the seller. From what I've gathered, the pros for an Imperial-type Rek-o-kut are pretty much what you've stated. Normally they have an integrated amp, whereas a 6N would not. They're a nice, elegant package. If there's low power from the amp it's more likely to be dried out capacitors, rather than tubes, though they could be burn(ing) out as well.
