Re: Has anyone here ordered blanks from vinylblanks@gmail.co

It would help if we knew the name of the company, and not just an email address.

Ah, but don't forget - first we'll need to post him $550 in cashier's checks to bribe the crooked Nigerian bankers who are holding his money hostage!

That disc is exactly how my first experiments in embossing turned out - minus the listenable audio, of course. Great job!

Re: Bunch of leadscrews on eBay

I really hate it when that happens. Not only does it deprive folks of the chance to nab some screws, but also, one - it's against eBay's terms, and two - it's unfair to the seller. Who knows how high the bidding may have gotten? At this point, the only idea of a "market value" for cutting equipment ...

Re: Anyone ever cut into a GLASS disc? (dont laugh too hard)

It's a simple process, in theory, but finicky and a little dangerous. http://www.google.com/patents?vid=382790 Beeswax is dissolved in a solvent, such as benzine. This solution is filtered and applied to the surface of the disc. The solvent is allowed to evaporate, leaving an ultra-thin layer of wax...

They're worth however much the market will buy them for. There's still a fair chunk of proto-trolls out there who are desperate for equipment, thinking they're going to be mastering 40-minute LPs on machines like this.

Re: Anyone ever cut into a GLASS disc? (dont laugh too hard)

Berliner made his first discs on glass, actually, using the same etching process he later used on zinc discs.

Re: SCAN - Record Changers and Recorders by John F. Rider [1

I've saved the pertinent chapter on cutting machines, and included the Index for easy reference to the mass of schematics that make up the bulk of the online scan: http://www.mediafire.com/?q3x7f7tacjqrpzo The book itself is pretty short - only 70 pages or so - and the chapter on recorders doesn't o...

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art

Thinking about an analogue solution... Take two identical 6Ns and mount a photoelectric eye to one carriage in place of a head. Belt the platters together and put the "scanner" in neutral. place a black and white printout of the groove artwork on the scanning table and make sure the feedscrews are i...

This is from the Beatport web site terms and conditions: See, this is where it gets really confusing. Right smack on their front page they are pushing "Royalty Free" loops and samples. On that page they repeat lines like Filled with every melody you'll need to build your Saturday night, mainroom fl...

Re: Rek-O-Kut VS Presto Lathes

From what I've gathered, the pros for an Imperial-type Rek-o-kut are pretty much what you've stated. Normally they have an integrated amp, whereas a 6N would not. They're a nice, elegant package. The downside is that parts for Rek-o-kuts (leadscrews in particular) are not always as easy to track dow...

Re: Wilcox Gay Recordio model 6A10

If there's low power from the amp it's more likely to be dried out capacitors, rather than tubes, though they could be burn(ing) out as well.

It never occurred to me to mount a chip tube from the top like that. Of course! Do you recall what size thread the tapped holes in the top of the carriage take?
