Well, we both got the same number, so it's probably correct!

Re: Grampian type d for sale

As a hint to future posters, even if you just copy and paste the whole address line it makes it a lot easier to view items on eBay, rather than trying to track them down by description or splicing in auction numbers.

Re: Overhead pitch RPM calculation

For the sake of calculation, let's start with 45rpm. We have several established numbers in this case: 45 rpm, 10 threads per inch, 200 LPI. We need to find the RPM of the screw to make it travel a set amount of distance across the disc in one minute. Given that we can only cut 45 lines in one minut...

Re: Presto 6n motor speed problem

I had much the same thing happen to my 6N motor. Running fine all day and then after sitting cold it seized nearly solid. The ancient grease had finally coagulated and gummed up the bearings. The only thing that got it spinning again was gentle persuasion and a dropper of Oil of Wintergreen.

Re: stamper playback system

Straightforward: the platter would have to spin anti-clockwise and the arm would have to be mounted likewise - and would have to be angled in the opposite direction as well.

Re: A vacation for a Polish friend

The whole thing seems so surreal, to be honest. The bizarre, broken text in whatever language, the fixation on Neumann while flogging a dubcutter, the comically bad MS Paint images... Somebody certainly put a lot of effort into trolling the Trolls.

Re: rewind a Pierre Clement coil

200 ohms is the AC rating. It will only show a fraction of that if you test it as a DC circuit. If you re-wind the coils so that they read 8 ohms DC, then it will still be up in the 80-100 ohm range once you start trying to push audio through it. Personally, I would leave it as is, or if you've alre...

Re: rewind a Pierre Clement coil

22 ohms seems an odd designation. Is it marked as 22 ohms or is that what the coil is reading?

I definitely agree with mossy though, keep it as original as possible.

Re: Wilcox Gay Recordio model 6A10

You do not want to try driving an 8-ohm head with a 500-ohm amp. The results will not be pretty. There are magnetic heads wound for 500, 16, or 8 ohms, depending on what you come across. A few trolls have re-wound their 500-ohm heads for 8 or 16, since 500-ohm amps have not been common since the 40s...

Re: Wilcox Gay Recordio model 6A10

Welcome to the club, man! Recordios are great machines for learning the core concepts of cutting. The cutting head should easily accept the shaft of a gramophone needle. Now, when you talk about grinding down gram needles to "cut" with do you mean grind them into flat cutting styli or truncate the t...

It's interesting to see how much individual character these machines have developed over their history, as they've been parted out and pieced back together. Someone unfamiliar with the equipment might be led to believe they were entirely different models!

A thought occurs to me, whether any competent jeweler could cut a notch fine enough in the tip of, say, a 3-mil stylus to ride comfortably on a stamper.

So, is this style of dashpot essentially a weight on the end of a rubber armature - a free-weight shock absorber?
