Re: Testing a cutting amp using a speaker
Super old thread, but if anybody is wondering about ransteele audio, I'm 98% certain it was tom steele from frankfort/wayne mastering labs. Sadly left us awhile back.

dummy head to simulate a 2b
Well, I'm getting close to the point I need to test my cutting system for a 2b. I think I want a dummy head to put on the system first and make adjustments. The speaker portion seems simple enough, 4ohm speaker and maybe some .5amp fuses to save it. But then, what to do with the feedback loop? Any i...

Re: embossing with an nsh-2?
Well. I guess thats why I'm hesitant to try it. Now, part of what got me thinking about it is rich flores out of ny. I've been following him on youtube and he seems to get results with polycarb and a 3d head. I would almost think a 3d would be more delicate than a 2b. But I've never played with a 3d...

Re: embossing with an nsh-2?
Polycarbonate is like the proverbial rubber, it is not suitable for cutting a groove, only for embossing. :) I broke several diamonds on polycarbonate, I'll never risk it again... I didn't break a diamond on copper, but on polycarbonate, after a few seconds, the diamond dug into the polycarbonate l...

Re: embossing with an nsh-2?
Thanks mark!
This should be a good starting point. I don't have an old styli to experiment with so I'm sending in a brand new nsh. Lacquers just don't seem feasable outside of experiments for me anyway.

embossing with an nsh-2?
Alright. Before I go head first into something silly is it even possible to emboss with polycarbonate, a nsh-2 sapphire and a westrex 2b?

Re: Ferrofluid ! In the gap, your opinion ! And helium
[/quote] Haha! Yes, that would be really something. With all those hoses and an external air conditioner :-)! Wonderful! Unfortunately, it would only cool the cutting head and not the coil. Small hoses would be an alternative. These could be connected to a can of freeze spray, and an electric valve ...

leadscrew pitch
Well. The time has come for me to figure out this leadscrew. Ive actually been playing with chatgpt lately and asked it what it thought the pitch was. I think it got it wrong, not suprising with the results ive gotten with chat prior. I'm kind of using chat purely for fun. I don't think its all its ...

Re: Cut head
I really hate suggesting ebay because its turned into mos eisley, a hive of scum and villanry. Which is difficult for me to say because I actually had faith in it not to long ago. But thats a story for another time. There are currently a few presto horseshoe style mono heads in the 6-700$ dollar ran...

Nice work!
It looks like mine was created out of a sheet of phenolic, but making one from an existing platter saves a TON of work!

SAMEAL: Love your audio electronics YouTube channel, especially the Webster cutterhead rebuild. Great job! I have several of those kicking around, and following your inspiration (if I get some time!) might well rebuild them. Thanks! Thanks! Soulbear helped me with that one a lot. The hardest part i...

Re: Olson cutting head info
Poking around the webbernet looking for xophonic specs I found this early stereo book that mentions an olson from RCA. I just skimmed it down to the xophonic blurb, which was terribly vague. But maybe theres some olson info in there https://www.worldradiohistory.com/BOOKSHELF-ARH/Technology/Gernsbac...

Re: fixing RCA MI-11850-C cutting head
I poured the silicon into the mold. Didn't seem to suck into the mold well. Almost like i need a secone air hole for it to pour and fill. Well see, not very high hopes. And i started fabbing a coil former to wind a new coil on. I might repair the old coil in the meantime to get this damper test going

Re: PSA: Haeco G200 labelled as "4g". I have your power supply!
If anybody else finds themselves in a similar situation, I have the 200 supply almost sussed out and its practically part for part on the 100 schematic. Very little differences in values.

Re: scully banding unit schematics
Well, in larry bodens book it says the 4 pin goes to the photocell and exciter lamp. The ten pin goes to the sequence panel. No mention of the two position barrier strip. No schem either.

Re: scully banding unit schematics
Hey flo! Here's some better pictures. I was able to activate the coil for the wafer like switch in the center of the unit with a 24vdc power supply, and those wires go back to the ten pin military connector. The other coil in the center resets the setting on the wafer switch. I couldn't activate tha...
