Re: Platter Motor
I'd also appreciate some info on Bearings - mine are looking pretty dirty on a Presto 14B (similar to 8D). The ball bearings are dirty and theres lots of space between them, which doesnt look right to me but I'm not sure what they're supposed to look like!

Re: Operating American lathes in Europe: 60 Hz or 50 Hz?
14b used 2 bodine motors originally, one for 45 one for 33, these were attached to a gear mechanism, just like the 8D i think. you can see mine in operation in this video, with the new motor in place of the old bodine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMn5FPbfVdw&feature=youtu.be I'm thinking that in...

Re: Operating American lathes in Europe: 60 Hz or 50 Hz?
I think there must be a reason for the big gearing system on the 14B though... could it be as simple as running the whole thing off a pulley rather than a geared motor?

thanks for your thorough answer, Jesus! all in all it osunds like maybe i have the best of a bad bunch of options then :) I sold the Bodines on to another troll who would benefit more than me, so I tihnk i'll focus on isolating my motor more and also getitng new bearings or servicing the existing be...

Re: Cutting masters on a 6N/8N..?
hmmm yeah I'm starting to wonder if the more manual nature of the 14B is an advantage in some ways over the neumans - as I can theoretically control more parts of it and do weirder cutting techniques. ive never used a neuman or anything but it sounds like they are very automated compared to prestos

Re: where to get black poly blanks
I've been embossing on Polycarbonate blanks using PIAPTK sapphire embossing stylus and Presto 5C head. The results I'm getting are starting to sound OK, before was lots of problems. I also tried MyShank PVC blanks but always got lots of noise - wooshhhh type noise. It's strange becasue both PIAPT an...

Re: New Project- Presto 14B / Caruso
So some more detail on the pulleys upgrade: I've been planning on getting the LPI mechanism working for ages, and always wanted to get a full automated motorized system involved, but I happened across a company that makes imperial measurement pulleys and realised I could cheaply get the original mec...
