Re: Have you done business with Mike Dixon?

Mike traded me some stylii and parts and valuable Presto knowledge in exchange for parts I was not going to be able to get the best use of (because of US/UK power supply difference) he was really helpful and is a valuable contributor on here.

Re: G.C.M.R Record Lathe

great work! how did you get on with the Airpot? I've got one and plan to use it on my lathe but some of the fixings seem like they might have some play in them.... we're not sure if it'll be a problem or not....

this is really cool to see. awesome work. I've been to Vinilyum's workshop and he is indeed doing very awesome stuff. I"m really glad to see a more DIY approach getting such good results too, very encouraging!

Re: New Project- Presto 14B / Caruso

Yes it has, it's just been pretty slow going due to various things, mostly health stuff.... but I'll post a proper update soon. I've teamed up with another cutter on here and we've made some nice progress. Also I've had some parts made by Jesus at Agnew Analog, and replaced the drive motors with a T...

Re: Bio vinyl, sustainability, vinyl record plants promoting it etc

I don't know much about bio vinyl I'm afraid. But I try to keep my packaging plastic free (card mailers, kraft tape) and I don't use shrink wrap. I just see this as a way of avoiding posting non-compostable trash to people. Would love to know more about bio vinyl and what the pressing plants could o...

Re: Rest in Peace, Todd Mariana aka Opcode66

Been a while since I logged in, this is very sad news. Todd rewound my 5C head for me and that helped get things started for me, so I'll remember him every time I use it. I learned a lot from his videos and he had some great ideas. I always wanted to have playable graphics on wax and he made a versi...

Optigan - Optical audio discs for an early sampler (Masters "cut" on a Scully)

Hi Guys I just saw an interesting video about the Optigan - a 70's sampler that used interchangable 12" optical discs with loops printed on them, similar to a Melotron in a way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Scd1lCgS490 The comments section had some great contributions by people who were involved ...

they have a nice video showing some of their process...

I wonder if there is some Nail Polish supplier that could tweak an existing product to produce the right lacquer?

Re: Need Presto 6N / 8N / 8D Motor bracket.

I have the whole presto gear assembly plus a modern machined bracket to fit a NEMA spec motor if thats any use, i think it will become redundant for me soon as I am going to switch to a different motor system entirely....

Re: Pheenix Alpha Sell 100 Presses!!

even before the pandemic there was a new pressing plant planning their opening in the north of the UK, and the places I go to regularly are so backed up with orders.... there must be more than just a fad going on. awesome news about the success of these guys!

Re: Looking for an engineer to cut a master lacquer

thats an interesting way of doing it Mark - thanks for the vid! I was thinking of it as Midi info that would get input into the DAW, parallel to the audio. where the gaps/head lifts/head drops were needed, I'd copy and paste templates of midi info, that would control the motors that move the head. T...

Re: Looking for an engineer to cut a master lacquer

wow I never posted an update on this project! whoops. It got done finally! After some experiments with the extremely helpful guys at Dr Dub, we proved that the platter motor was also a very important piece of this puzzle. I ended up having to get super specialist and get my lacquer done on a VMS80, ...

Re: Pictures in sound: introducing Vinyl Draw

i love this idea, I think Deepgrooves also had a method for this. I originally wanted to have a playable logo on one of my records but becasue of time restraints we couldnt delay the project longer.... We ended up working with an etching artist who lined the image up for me, I got a 12" lacquer cut ...
