OK - Step 1: New suction tube. This pulls the swarf horizontally.
The image looks like the tube touches the head - but it's just a bad perspective - there is plenty of room. Now we wait for the new pump.

Re: Plastic cutting - thread frizzy
Hey Bear: Yes .. i already made a few tries with the current pump and larger diameter tubing which lead - as you might imagine .. to nowhere. I am not even sure if I can get a 1/2" tube under my cutting head - I would very much like to continue to use 1/4 " if only because its easy hand bendable. I ...

Re: Plastic cutting - thread frizzy
Well - like I said - my current vacuum is unable to reliably handle plastic cutting swarf. This is how the suction tube is installed currently suction_left.jpg There is one problem with that kind of a setup that I will fix shortly: The suction tube angles upward pulling the thread over the heating c...

Re: Plastic cutting - thread frizzy
There is *no* way my suction will be *ever* able to handle this. swarf.jpg This reminds me on entangled fishing line. My 1/4 inch suction tube had no problems with anything a "normal" lacquer disk would produce. But it's simply overwhelmed by what plastic cutting produces. May I ask what suction lin...

Plastic cutting - thread frizzy
Just got into cutting plastics with myshank's styli and blanks. I don't use stylus heat (yet) because I have no experience with that and want to learn step by step. I am working with a Rek-O-Kut Master Pro and a Grampian head with a long shank stylus. Here's my question: While cutting, the swarf thr...

Re: Compensation for a reissue?
Hi There: I am doing exactly this - re-issuing vintage music. It's a bit complex, especially, when it comes to more "famous" musicians or bands. We're currently working on "Glenn Miller" tunes - which required a Sony (RCA) license and permission from the estate of Glenn Miller to use some materials....

Who's doing what? Record production ..
So .. we have the licenses, the graphics for the box and the labels are ready, the audios are re-mastered we're now in process to find a matching cutter to create the lacquer masters. Now .. a few questions are popping up: We're producing a box set of 5 records .. who is doing the packaging / shrink...

Re: Master Pro, suction, cutting plastics
Yeah, that looks tough. Thanks very much for your help. Turns out that I just don't have enough room to fit my suction tube reliably under the head when working with a short shank. Got myself a diamond short shank and it works well - but there's not enough room for a suction tube. Already contacted...

Yes. I use that too. What kid of hose do you use? Can't find it anywhere?rsimms3 wrote:I used 1/4" pilot burner tubing (aluminum) which is easy to shape and fit under my head behind the cutting needle.

Re: Master Pro, suction, cutting plastics
Yes - your version is definitely better and more advanced than mine. I experimented with different mounts, but wasn't able to get it under the head. This is my current design. So - I guess I have to find a better way to attach the pipe. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Master Pro, suction, cutting plastics
Just so I understand the question, you're saying that if you have plastic swarf that has been pulled into the collection tube, if it gets stuck it then gets pulled back down the tube onto your material being cut? Well .. first the swarf get sucked into the system .. but sometimes during the cut it ...

Master Pro, suction, cutting plastics
I have suction on my Rek-O.-Cut Masterpro (Grampian head) and it works well with lacquer cuts. Cutting plastic however is a totally different ball game. Since the swarf is a complete thread (that doesn't tear easy) once it manages to bypass suction, its over. It actually pulls the already collected ...

Thanks for the info. Will try it out. So obviously those diamonds do cut the blanks like a hot knife the butteruvoscillator wrote: now I have exact 14gr and that is good enough !

Cutting with diamond ... stylus pressure .. weight ..
Santa was very gracious and brought me a myshank stylus and blanks. He must somehow overlooked a few of my deeds last year :) Anyway .. the FAQ on myshank's web site suggests a max. weight of 14 grams - which is very low based on my previous experiences cutting lacquers. I usually adjust the weight ...
