This one :) I have my own setup - so I don't need a jar. Especially since I don't know, what has been sucked into it *shudder* . I'll keep you posted.

Re: Chip mess and suction issues

I just bought one of those pumps from Ebay (50 Bucks). Wikipedia: Aspirator (medical device), a suction device used to remove bodily fluids from a patient

Re: Poor Man's Feedback Cutter Head

I guess what you are trying to describe is a slow acting compressor/limiter. I think that would be a very iffy way to approach the problem. Give it a go and let's see how it works out. Thanks Mark. As the microphone is attached to the cutter head it will listen to everything happening in there. Wit...

Now that's funny. I was just looking at exactly the same pump(s). Question is: Will they provide us with the suction needed?

Re: Poor Man's Feedback Cutter Head

As you have it defined, it will not work. [...] What improvements are you looking to achieve by using feedback? Why wouldn't it work? The idea is to be able to pickup resonance from the head that will (what I think) be distinguishable by increased volume picked up by the microphone and to use the s...

Re: Poor Man's Feedback Cutter Head

You'll notice there is no actual data given about the performance. Just personal opinion. No response plots. I wonder why? There's no doubt in my mind that the proposed solution is rudimentary at best. The only question to be answered is: Is it better than no feedback? And this I will try to find o...

Re: Poor Man's Feedback Cutter Head

I don't think the LED, and even less the LDR, are resposive at audio frequencies. You will most likely get an envelope of the audio intensity, but not the audio itself. l LEDs are sure enough responsive to audio frequencies. There are quite a few experimental setups transferring audio via LED. The ...

Re: Poor Man's Feedback Cutter Head

Now you know what if feels like to be me. You know how big the target is painted on my back.... 8) Hahaha .. well .. thanks. I will buffer the led with a small capacitor and a bleed resistor so that it won't actually pulse a frequency. Only some average volume. I could even include some form of a s...

Re: Poor Man's Feedback Cutter Head

Please don't take my comment the wrong way. The section "Secrets of the Lathe Trolls" is likely best for general questions about gear. Unless you are building this out, this isn't the right section. Actually - I am planning to build it. It may not be accurate but I believe it might help me to flatt...

Re: Poor Man's Feedback Cutter Head

First issue is that a microphone wont give accurate information about how the inidivdual pistons are moving in a stereo design. It would pick up the movement of both transducer. Well .. it would be for a mono head. Thanks for your answer and your explanations. My underlying thought was the resonanc...

Poor Man's Feedback Cutter Head

I was thinking: What if a cutter head mounted microphone would provide a signal that modulates a LED which illuminates (or not) a photo resistor in the signal path to the amplifier? Would that count as a poor man's dynamic feedback cutter head? Or am I on the wrong path?

A tonn of material makes around the 5000 records Needs to be paid up front Than the cost of cutting metal work labels sleeves packing freight etc Pressing will be around the $2.50 each it takes twice as long to make them as they need to set under pressure and heat been a thermosetting material So t...

Re: New Design Stereo Cutteerhead for semi-pro Lathes

Why is my design demanding. I'm collaborating with some other trolls to mount my head on a Presto lathe for testing. I predict no major hiccups. I am looking forward to be able to test drive your head. And it may very well be the solution I was asking about. A mount option for presto style styli wo...

Re: New Design Stereo Cutteerhead for semi-pro Lathes

But, why? Caruso is not that expensive. The cutterhead I'm working on will have models ranging between $500 USD and $2000. Anyone making a Grampian clone would want at least $500 for the metalwork. I've seen old ones go for more than that recently. Well - I think you're doing great work. I think th...

New Design Stereo Cutteerhead for semi-pro Lathes

This might be a completely stupid question - but I ask it anyway. There are several new cutter heads and development projects all more or less trying to push the high end envelope. I appreciate that but would think the market segment to be somewhat limited. The semi-pro lathes (like Rek-O-Kuts) on t...

Re: Polycarbonate 12" - 10" blank records searching

you can use the myshank blank for either cutting with diamond, or embossing with sapphire/ruby/steel/tungsten in my experience polycarbonate is a little bit cheaper, though "harder" than the myshank blanks. they have a softer feel to them. I use the myshank blanks for cutting with diamond, and poly...

Well you are right. Small market indeed, but need? I don't think T model ford drivers satisfy they transport needs with a tin lizzy that's for sure At any rate I have put forward my view from a manufacturers point of view. I am affraid you will not get any takers myself included not again, in parti...

Re: Polycarbonate 12" - 10" blank records searching

For example : I am impressing with the GoodTurn stylus on black PVC. This is one of the blanks made by Myshank. They are normally meant to be cut with a diamond, but I was experimenting with embossing on them to see what it will sound like. The sound is very good, but there is a lot of stuff coming...
