OK thanks, I figured it wasn't a factor, just wanted to check.

VMS 70 vacuum hose max length?
I currently have the vacuum in another room to reduce noise. I'm moving the lathe to a different spot and I'll need to extend the distance from the vacuum box to the lathe from about 4' to 8' or more. Does anyone have the vacuum box in a remote location? Anything I should be aware of?

Re: VMS-70 Platter drive oil
I'm pretty sure the silicon oil is only to be used in the dashpot in the overhead. I don't know what available product would be used for the the TT drive - I've never had to top mine up and never replaced it.

Re: Cutterhead cooling gas-medical grade Helium
I too have heard that balloon grade helium can contain moisture and ferrous debris that may be detrimental to the head. Is there a consensus about this? Is medical grade overkill?

etching graphics into a 14" lacquer disc
Hi,
I've been asked to get a lacquer etched with an image from a graphics file. I'm assuming laser is the standard way to do this? I'm not sure what type of equipment is best or who offers such a service. Anyone have experience with this?

Creating fades for side splits from CD master
I'm sometimes in the position of creating side splits for first time vinyl releases from a master that contains continuous program across the side split(no silence between tracks). Often the most natural fade involves tacking some of the beginning of B onto the end of A and vice versa. Sometimes thi...

Re: stylus heat issue - power supply - VMS 70
Thanks for the tips,
There were a few things wrong with the fuse housings that were causing intermittency, not on the card itself, but on the panel to the right. It all works again.

stylus heat issue - power supply - VMS 70
Hi, Perhaps one of you has experience with a stylus heat issue on a VMS 70 / SX 74 The meter shows no current and the cut shows no heat. I tried more than one stylus, and checked continuity on each. I took out the the TE 66 panel and checked the connections to pot, meter, socket. I tried bypassing t...

I was briefly involved with Acme in 03-04. We had 3 SMT presses at that time. I have heard they ended up at Brooklyn Phono.

test pressing noise - little scratches or stamper issue
Image of a test pressing attached here. Does this look familiar to anyone? It occurs in the same pattern but varies slightly in appearance and sound from record to record. It looks like little scratches on the record to me, but perhaps it's an artifact on the stamper? someone more familiar with plat...

Re: Transco Lacquers and Styli
Hey,
Haven't seen a post here in a few months. Does that mean transco styli are more reliable these days? I've been on Adamant for a while and I'm just about to order a few transco. I'm wondering if it's good timing.

Re: Lead-in spec, groove guard issue // VMS 70
Yes, I'm measuring the diameters on the disk, not with the ruler on the lathe.
Also the scale on the my lathe is metric (it's from the UK) so I'm converting.
Lead-in start 299mm (11.77")
Lead-in end 293mm (11.54")

My start also happens at 11 3/4".
My manual is incomplete. That page would be very helpful.

Re: Lead-in spec, groove guard issue // VMS 70
By groove guard I mean the raised bump at the edge of the record. In this case it extends through my lead-in almost to the recording surface. I hadn't considered that the delay may have drifted - I'll look into that first before anything mechanical. I will start checking with new plants I'm sending ...

Lead-in spec, groove guard issue // VMS 70
I have an issue on a test pressing with the groove guard causing a sound immediately before the audio starts. I have never adjusted the microswitches. It looks like it might be a bit off. Also, I've always started the audio in the first half rev after lead-in, but maybe I need to leave more silence....

adamant stylus which type?
I'm going to try an adamant stylus.
Which type is typical for SX74? I guess the 1 micron has a finer point?
I'm using a 320K now.
