Amazing project and amazing progress! Perhaps you already know it, but just wanted to mention Max/Msp. It can control arduino, it can do standalone vst plugins and a lot of other useful things. Might also be a good solution for connecting the DAW with your controller, as it has way more options than...

Some time went by, but I still working on it. Finished the measurements on the Caruso Pre just a few days ago. Seems fine so far. I recently bought a Rek-O-Kut T43H with a M12 S Overhead and Audax RH5. Now started to try to set it up and doing the first test cuts. I only have a transformer, but no frequency converter, so i changed the speed with ableton and used an iriaa vst. For testing i'm using the russian styli, which work...

i used a brushless dc motor. You can check maxon motors "swiss quality". There are also suitable controller where you can set speed, direction and brake via pot/switch.
